Breitbart’s Blogger Does a Hatchet Job on the FBI and Imam Kifah Mustapha

Andrew Breitbart, one of the leading Conservative figures in the “new media” movement is the creator of the web site Big Peace among other websites prefixed with the word “Big:” Big Government, Big Journalism, Big Hollywood, Big Peace and plans for Big Education, Big Tolerance, and Big Jerusalem.

Breitbart is infamous for numerous instances of shady statements, racism, Islamophobia, heavy editing of video footage and being an all around dishonest and immoral jerk. So it isn’t a surprise that Big Peace advertises its main draw blogger as the moribund and altogether repulsive Frank Gaffney.

In a recent blog on Big Peace from one Patrick S. Poole titled, FBI Escorts Known Hamas Operative Through Top-Secret National Counterterrorism Center as “Outreach” to Muslim Community, we are given a taste of the sort of anti-Muslim and Islamophobic rhetoric in which this site traffics. Poole haphazardly puts together a blog piece that slings innuendo, smears, guilt by association and other half-baked character assassination techniques to arrive at his preset conclusion.

It involves the case of Sheik Kifah Mustapha, a leader at the Bridgeview Mosque Foundation in Chicago. Mustapha has been under the radar of the right-wing ever since Islamophobe Steven Emerson profiled him on his site, questioning whether the Illinois State Police should hire him as a chaplain. Mustapha’s candidacy as a chaplain was withdrawn by the Illinois State Police which gave the official reason for withdrawing as not having enough funds for the position. In reality they got spooked by Steven Emerson’s fear campaign against Mustapha and are now being sued for discrimination.

The piece by Poole however is an exercise in disinformation. He begins his non-objective article by calling Mustapha a “known Hamas operative” but he proffers zero evidence. His only point was that Mustapha worked for the Holy Land Foundation (HLF), and six leaders in HLF were convicted in a much contested re-trial, (they were acquitted of all the charges in the first trial) of funneling funds to Hamas charities.

The fact is that Kifah Mustapha has never been convicted of terrorism or support of terrorism. I challenge Poole to bring to light one piece of evidence that claims Mustapha is a “Hamas operative.” The fact is he cannot. It is just another instance of defamatory fear-mongering riding on the wave of guilt by association. Since Kifah was associated with HLF he must be a terrorist assumes Poole. Does Poole honestly believe that the FBI would work with and allow someone who is associated with Hamas into a top-secret Counter-terrorism center? I’ll take my chances that the FBI knows who is a terrorist/terrorist supporter and who isn’t over Mr. Poole’s defamation of individuals as “Hamas Operatives.”
