Right-wing bloggers protest Muslim hero
Right-wing bloggers have criticised DC Comics’ newly introduced Muslim superhero.
First appearing in the pages of Detective Comics Annual #12, Nightrunner is a 22-year-old Muslim Algerian recruited by Bruce Wayne to be the Batman of Paris, reports Robot 6.
“You see, DC Comics has decided that the ‘French saviour’, the French Batman, is to be a Muslim immigrant,” wrote Warner Todd Huston on his site Publius Forum.
“The character’s name is Bilal Asselah and he is an Algerian Sunni Muslim and an immigrant that is physically fit and adept at gymnastic sport Parkour. Apparently Batman couldn’t find any actual Frenchman to be the ‘French saviour’.”
Huston cites Islam as the chief cause of civil unrest in modern-day France. He has previously criticised Marvel for its perceived attack on the US Tea Party Movement in the pages of Captain America.
Nightrunner’s introduction will continue this week in David Hine and Agustin Padilla’s Batman Annual #28.

If the French hero weren’t Muslim, would the conservative blogger lend his efforts to promoting the character’s franchise? Comics are a tough market in this day and age, I really wish a conservative blogger would set his sights on condemning my creative work!
