Bryan Fischer Says Muslims Don’t Have First Amendment Rights

27 March 2011 General 10 Comments Email This Post Email This Post

Bryan Fischer

Bryan Fischer, the “Director of Issues Analysis” for the social conservative group the American Family Association, says that when it comes to Islam, the First Amendment is a privilege, not a right. “Islam has no fundamental First Amendment claims, for the simple reason that it was not written to protect the religion of Islam,” Fischer wrote today.

“The First Amendment was written by the Founders to protect the free exercise of Christianity. They were making no effort to give special protections to Islam. Quite the contrary,” Fischer wrote on his Renew America blog.

He continued:

Islam has no fundamental First Amendment claims, for the simple reason that it was not written to protect the religion of Islam. Islam is entitled only to the religious liberty we extend to it out of courtesy. While there certainly ought to be a presumption of religious liberty for non-Christian religious traditions in America, the Founders were not writing a suicide pact when they wrote the First Amendment.

Fischer took it a step further, calling Islam a “treasonous ideology” and adding that “from a constitutional point of view, Muslims have no First Amendment right to build mosques in America. They have that privilege at the moment, but it is a privilege that can be revoked.”

Fischer, also known for his frequent anti-gay, anti-bear rhetoric, has previously called for the U.S. to have “no more mosques, period,” because “every single mosque is a potential terror training center or recruitment center for jihad.” He’s also suggested that we should “handle Muslims just like we handle neo-Nazis.”

And his show is a frequent stomping ground for conservative politicians, including potential 2012 presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, and actual 2012 candidate Tim Pawlenty.

  1. If I listened to everything any Muslim said about Christianity I may go crazy too. We cannot listen to the ranting’s of those who are crazy and irrational regardless of the religion they practice. If we were in the Middle East and other Muslim dominated countries where Christianity is condemned and looked down on this would not be an issue. There would be no arguments for Christians. People all around the world, no matter where they live, should be able to practice their religion in piece without worrying about being discriminated against or have their lives threatened.

  2. The First Amendment was patterned after the Constitution of Virginia, of which Thomas Jefferson says:
” that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mohammedan, the Hindoo and Infidel of every denomination.”

“Mohammedan” was the common term used for Muslims in Jefferson’s time. The First Amendment was, indeed, “written to protect the religion of Islam.”

  3. Thanks, Tracie, but all Muslims recognize Judaism, Christianity & Islam as the 3 Abrahamic Faiths.

So, while Muslim may have their disagreements with Jews & Christians, they respect their faiths.

  4. To those christians who would object to Islam claiming it is a religion of violence, please complete the lyrics…”Onward christian soldiers……”

    Yeah, that’s what I thought.

  5. Bryan Fischer is an embarrassment and his remarks do nothing to build bridges.

  6. @Tracie,

Don’t post rubbish. Christians in Muslim countries are treated a hell of a lot better then Muslims in so called countries. I’ve wondered why Christians get so spineless about Israel which dechristianized Bethlehem in just 45 years of occupation versus the 1000 years it remained a Christian majority city while under Muslim rule.

    Pick up a history book.

  7. Hmmmm, who created the word crusade?

  8. “it was not written to protect the religion of Islam” If that isnt what it was written for, then they should have specified just for christianity (which would be stupid, because America is supposed to be “the land of the free”). Fischer is disgusting. Its pricks like him that encourage racism.

    have some tolerance

  9. seems to me people believe in some invisible god no one ever gets to see.they believe in some book that took over two hundred years to write.they believe their religion is the moral compass everyone else should believe.rah the sun god was born on the same day as christ and buhda.religion should be outlawed it does more harm than good.take the islamic religion it has not produced one invention that has advanced mankind in the last 2 hundred years.they have only won 2 noble prizes(.02%) of the total since it started.the jews have been awarded with 25%.so to put it in context the jews with 5 million people produce more than islam with its 1.2 billion people.if islam is so great why do they blow themselves up ,behead live innocents,go nuts over cartoon drawings of allah, and are scared of pussy.

  10. lakum dinukum waliaddin….
