SPRING HILL — Crescent Community Clinic, the free nonprofit health service for the uninsured, will open its new Spring Hill facility at 8:30 a.m. June 11.

Meanwhile, the clinic’s original facility on Broad Street in Brooksville has closed.

The Brooksville clinic, which was opened in 2008 by a group of local Muslim doctors, performed more than 5,000 patient services, according to Barbara Sweinberg, director of volunteer services. But the clinic’s limited resources won’t allow for the continued operation of two facilities.

“(We) can’t afford to keep both of the clinics open,” Sweinberg said, “and most of the patients come from Spring Hill now.”

The new clinic — for low-income people ages 18 to 64 who have no insurance — will be in Winchester Plaza at 5244 Commercial Way.

Last year, Crescent carried a patient roster of 1,461. So far this year, the number stands at more than 1,000, Sweinberg said.

Physicians, who volunteer their services the first three Saturdays of each month, include a core of five, assisted by some 37 other volunteers, both in the medical field and allied and office services. More volunteers are enrolled in training to take on additional roles.

Seven dentists have signed on to offer basic dental services and are undergoing qualification.

Medical specialists are on call from Brooksville Regional and Spring Hill Regional hospitals and Oak Hill Hospital. They, too, donate their expertise.

The new clinic was made possible by a $100,000 grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida. Also, Dr. Rodney Ackley, who spearheaded the dental outreach initiative, is providing the clinic facility space at a reduced rate.

Nonetheless, the clinic has an ongoing need for donations to help with operational expenses.

At the new clinic’s opening, a limited number of new patients will be able to sign in from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Patients on file may register from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Lab patients with prescriptions for blood work will be processed at 9:15 a.m.

  1. [2.116] And they say: Allah has taken to himself a son. Glory be to Him; rather, whatever is in the heavens and the earth is His; all are obedient to Him.
[2.117] Wonderful Originator of the heavens and the earth, and when He decrees an affair, He only says to it, Be, so there it is.
[2.118] And those who have no knowledge say: Why does not Allah speak to us or a sign come to us? Even thus said those before them, the like of what they say; their hearts are all alike. Indeed We have made the communications clear for a people who are sure.
[2.119] Surely We have sent you with the truth as a bearer of good news and as a warner, and you shall not be called upon to answer for the companions of the flaming fire.
[2.120] And the Jews will not be pleased with you, nor the Christians until you follow their religion. Say: Surely Allah’s guidance, that is the (true) guidance. And if you follow their desires after the knowledge that has come to you, you shall have no guardian from Allah, nor any helper.
[2.121] Those to whom We have given the Book read it as it ought to be read. These believe in it; and whoever disbelieves in it, these it is that are the losers.
[2.122] O children of Israel, call to mind My favor which I bestowed on you and that I made you excel the nations.
