When Peter King held his first congressional hearing on American Muslims last March, hip-hop mogul and founder of Def Jam records Russell Simmons did an incredibly brave thing: He organized a rally in New York city that brought together concerned citizens and celebrities to show their solidarity with American Muslims.

Simmons’ “Today, I Am A Muslim, Too” rally brought together major celebrities such as Ashton Kutcher, Adrian Grenier from “Entourage” and hundreds of thousands on and offline to participate.

With the 10-year anniversary of 9/11 less than a month away, Simmons has again pledged his support for the American Muslim community. This time he has created a video that calls upon Americans to support the new online campaign, “My Fellow American.” This is a social media project that has received hundreds of real life stories from everyday Americans in the form of YouTube videos about Muslims they know and admire. The project seeks to help dispel the fear and ever rising levels of Islamophobia in America by changing the cultural narrative from Muslims as the other, to Muslims as our fellow Americans.

To take the pledge and share your Muslim story, visit the My Fellow American website.
