Sens. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and Susan Collins (R-ME) aren’t messing around when it comes to stopping federal dollars from flowing to anti-Muslim terrorism training. In a letter to Obama on Tuesday, the duo said that if the administration can’t develop criteria to keep bigoted information out of counter-terrorism training, they’ll “consider drafting a legislative mandate or even imposing standards by statute.”

“An initial review by our staff reveals that agencies providing grants to state and local law enforcement lack meaningful standards for counter-terrorism curriculum and an adequate vetting process for individual trainers,” Lieberman and Collins wrote.

“In addition, state and local law enforcement often have little to no guidance from the federal government on what counter-terrorism training should entail,” they write. “The result has often been cases of trainers spewing inaccurate or even bigoted information to state and local law enforcement personnel, stigmatizing Muslim-Americans generally, and in effect, lending support to the false narrative that we are ‘at war’ with Islam.”

“As we have previously stated in letters to this administration, we have serious concerns that improper training may not be isolated occurrences and could be detrimental to our efforts to confront homegrown terrorism,” they write. “Since Muslim Americans are our main allies in the fight against violent Islamist extremism domestically, any training that implies otherwise is both inaccurate and counterproductive.”

  1. Someone correct me if I’m wrong. Didn’t he support the Peter King hearings that ARE stigmatizing Muslims in this country? If I’m wrong, please show me that proof that he doesn’t.

  2. Stealth Jihad is marching on….Glory, glory, halleluuuujaaaaah….

  3. Muslim Americans are not our main allies in the fight against violent Islamist extremism domestically..They are part of the problem. They support terrorist financally and emotionally. There also is no such thing as American muslims, they are only loyal to islam and their sharia law, there is only muslims, they are all the same..Ask them and they will tell you this..

  4. Who knows what Collins and Lieberman are up to. Misleading politics as usual which Americans are sick and tired of. Americans have responded to the attacks of 911 with 10 years to tolerance. We’ve tolerated feeble leadership and a misleading press. We’ve studied Islam and have learned the difference between the people, and the tenets of Islam. We want no part of Islam or Shariah Law. Weak politicians can flap their lips all they want, and the press can keep spreading their BS to anyone who wants to listen, but Americans are going in another direction.

do you know the meaning of Jihad?

Jihad means struggle. A real jihad in God’s eyes is me struggling to juggle prayer, AP classes, and working out so these oreos don’t go to my thighs. NOT blowing up an American embassy. that’s called murder, and murder isn’t allowed in Islam.

How about you read about Islam, the history, and tafseer whic literally translates into explainations of Quran. So do that. Don’t beleive everything you’ve been told by the media. they lied to you about the arsenic in your child’s apple juice, the overpriced n1H1 vaccinations, and all the other wonderful things Global media likes to fill up with crap.

  6. @kaffir
actually muslim americans have actually been intregal in stopping terrorism for example the time square bomber was tipped off to authorities by a muslim that led to his arrest other examples are here http://www.mpac.org/assets/docs/publications/MPAC-Post-911-Terrorism-Data.pdf

  7. and my bad on saying “actually” twice I often type fast

  8. Kaafir LMFAO Here I am A muslim, I don’t support any terrorists, because killing and intolerance is forbidden in Islam. “And they’ll tell you this.” Maybe you should stick your head back in the ground and think about what your saying you bird brain.

  9. corey

this might be awkward but i think i love you

    Jk but I totally agree.

  10. Elle,
yes, I did read the Quran and am reading it again. I also read Islam for Dummies, I recommend that strongly for you, and I read plenty of other related literature. I have my thoughts and opinions based on Quranic text and Imams’ interpretations. I also have two nice and naive muslim girlfriends who love their faith. I only didn’t ask them yet how would they propose to treat homosexuals and what would their umma do if their daughters date and marry infidels. Would you answer that question for me? Sure, it’s a religion of peace ….. with the exception of the 270 million victims of conquest since its inception….and rising. Stop lieing to yourself, get the facts.
