Teenager admits sickening attack on elderly Muslim outside Kilmarnock mosque

A teenager shouted racial abuse as he kicked and stamped on a 71-year-old grandfather’s head for 10 minutes. And he later sent a sickening text boasting about his horrifying actions.

At Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday, the 16-year-old – who cannot be named for legal reasons – pleaded guilty to carrying out the vicious attack outside the Ayrshire Central Mosque in July.

His victim, who had already suffered a stroke, sustained severe facial injuries in the unprovoked attack which took place in the early hours of the morning.

Nancy Beresford, prosecuting, said that the former Crosshouse shopkeeper had gone to the mosque, in Hill Street, Kilmarnock, to prepare for Friday prayers at around 1.40am. As he approached the door, clad in white robes, he noticed a male and two females, along with young children, standing in the street, with another group of females nearby.

The 16-year-old then came towards him shouting abuse, including “Paki bastard”. He punched the pensioner in the chest, causing him to fall to the ground. The teenager continued the assault, while still shouting abuse.

Interviewed, he denied the assault and racial abuse. The 16-year-old told police that he couldn’t understand “why somebody was praying at that time in the morning”.

The Ayrshire Central Mosque was opened earlier this year after the conversion of a former pub – a development that was fiercely opposed by the Scottish Defence League. Back in 2009, when the EDL was planning to extend its Islamophobic campaign north of the border, Osama Saeed reported:

“Mosques in Glasgow and Kilmarnock have been identified by the far right Scottish Defence League and their English counterpart as possible scenes of protest. In Glasgow, we understand that they have discussed George Square, Pollokshields and the Sheriff Court as possible locations. The latter seems like a strange place to hold a demonstration till it is understood that it is across the street from Glasgow Central Mosque. Also discussed has been a pub in Kilmarnock, the Hillhead Tavern, which is the subject of interest from a Muslim group to buy and convert into a mosque.”

The SDL eventually settled on Glasgow for their first demonstrationbut went on to organise a protest in Kilmarnock in June last year. Although it was billed as a demonstration in defence of “free speech”, the SDL’s main target was clearly the conversion of the former Hillhead Tavern.

  1. Elderly, muslim or nt, should never be treated like that. They are fragile and small people, and he had a stroke??? That could have killed him! The 16 yr old is the bastard not the old man. That’s sick. Preying on an old man, did his mother neglect him as a child?

  2. Unfortunately, due to CAIR sponsored and Quran endorsed taqiyya, half of these reports nationwide are false. So, to cover the 50% likelihood of this story being true; I pray the elderly person heals to be stronger than before the incident, and that the 16 year old gets his life on track.

  3. sickening,,,

well at least they weren’t pulled from a plane an made to “suffer”.

    ani,

    where you being serious?

  4. Mark, your use of the word “taqiyya” is completely inaccurate and is a tactic of the Islamophobe blogosphere.

  5. Ignorance and intolerance are the hallmark of the bigot. He is driven to rage over things he does not understand and feels no remorse in attacking those things, as if merely to do so makes him a champion for the way things “ought to be.” This cretin needs to rot.

  6. Mark are you really that hateful and ignorant that you can’t read. This didn’t happen in the US and has nothing to do with CAIR. It happened in the UK. Obviously it was true… it was prosecuted, there were witnesses and the boy admitted it. Grow up and stop hating.

  7. “Quran endorsed taqiyya??!”..brother, there’s is no such thing as “taqyyia” in true Islam. please do not mislead the people into believing such lies against Islam. .it’s an absurd idea and makes no sense. please do some authentic research…here’s a link that might clear some things up..Peace be with you.

  8. Here’s my be nice comment. Somebody ought to take that 16 year old out and shoot him.

  9. john,

you’re right. perhaps god will send al-khidr to slay him. clearly his heart is corrupt. but then again don’t blame him. god gives faith to those he chooses and makes other blind and deaf, seals their hearts. may a great chastisement befall him in this life and the next.

  10. John

While i appreciate the sentiment you have for a Muslim old man, like Mike said, sometimes God makes people blind and deaf in their hearts. I hate it too, but death shouldn’t be the punishment. In reality, God’s the only one allowed to take the soul of someone (aka when they die) because Allah made every life precious, maybe undeserved to those like that boy, that sick minded creep but….i don;t think it’s suitable to kill him. He has much life still kicking in him (forgive the pun) he can put it to good use.

  11. Al-khidr was with Moses, and he killed him, only him, to show, it was God’s will. I’m pretty sure when God sends an apostle, it only happens once. Except Jesus, he’ll come back when Maseeh AlDajjal, the anti-Christ, the false Messiah comes along.
