Radical Anti-Muslim Islamophobe Nonie Darwish Invited to Speak at George Mason Law School

Nonie Darwish

Nonie Darwish

Nonie Darwish, a staple of the Right-wing anti-Muslim Islamophobia network has been invited to speak by the George Mason Law School. She is scheduled to speak at the law school on October 5. [5 p.m., Room 121]. Her address, titled “The West’s Clash with Radicalism,” is sponsored by the Federalist Society and the Jewish Law Students Association. We urge all loonwatchers to contact the school and ask that she be disinvited.

Recently Nonie Darwish let loose her radical and violent rhetoric at an SIOA rally. (Bare in mind thatSIOA has been designated an anti-Muslim hate group by the SPLC and was denied a trademark patent by the US government.)

Islam is a poison to a society. It’s divisive. It’s hateful. Look what Islam is doing on our college campuses. It’s full of anti-Semitism. It’s going to turn us against one another. It’s going to produce chaos in society. Because Islam should be feared, and should be fought, and should be conquered, and defeated, and annihilated, and it’s going to happen. Ladies and gentlemen, Islam is going to be brought down. . .Because Islam is based on lies and it’s not based on the truth. I have no doubt whatsoever that Islam is going to be destroyed.

We have also dealt with Nonie Darwish’s radicalism in past articles. One of the most recent articlesdealt with the fact that she was called as a witness in a New York State Senate hearing on “preparedness since 9/11″:

Like most in the anti-Muslim business, Nonie has a greatly exaggerated personal sob-story backed up by book deals and speaking engagements in all the typical “hating on Muslim” venues. She sells herself as a “human rights activist,” as do so many other virulent Muslim-bashers, though she doesn’t seem to care too much about the human rights of Muslims. This time, however, she will be using the pseudonym “Nahid Hyde,” perhaps as a not-so-clever way of avoiding government inquiry into her association with other bigots and white supremacists. Yet, even a cursory view of her ridiculous book titles should cause any serious security official to question her credibility as a fair and impartial witness.

The reviewer of her latest book, “Cruel and Usual Punishment: The Terrifying Global Implications of Islamic Law,” (which sells for a whopping $28.99) stated:

In her estimation, Islam is a backward and authoritarian ideology that is attempting to impose on the world the norms of seventh-century Bedouin life. For Darwish, Islam is a sinister force that must be resisted and contained.

It must be difficult to pack so many stereotypes into 272 pages, but Ms. Darwish has done it, making such bold generalizations and demonstrably false claims as:

Sharia is incompatible with any state that has as a foundational principle the equality of the sexes before the law.

Perhaps she should “educate” the Grand Mufti of Egypt, who recently remarked:

Egypt’s religious tradition is anchored in a moderate, tolerant view of Islam. We believe that Islamic law guarantees freedom of conscience and expression (within the bounds of common decency) and equal rights for women. And as head of Egypt’s agency of Islamic jurisprudence, I can assure you that the religious establishment is committed to the belief that government must be based on popular sovereignty.

But disclosing some enlightening and nuanced facts about contemporary Islam or the multivalent, non-monolithic view and relationship Muslims have with Islamic Law would ruin her book sales and speaking tours, wouldn’t it?

Like other Islamophobes, she is careful to make a distinction between Islam and Muslims, so as not to appear like the plain bigot she is:

Darwish is careful to distinguish between people and ideas: “The purpose of this book is not to spread hatred of a people but to tell the truth about the wickedness of Islamic Sharia law.”

Such distinctions are disingenuous, pro-forma statements that only fool the naïve into thinking she isn’t a professional hate-monger. (Right, just like how Pam Geller loves those Moozlims so much she wants to drop nuclear bombs on them, out of love, of course.)

Contrary to her assertion, Ms. Darwish regularly engages in dehumanizing rhetoric about all Muslims, not just extremists. She even told the New York Times:

A mosque is not just a place for worship. It’s a place where war is started, where commandments to do jihad start, where incitements against non-Muslims occur. It’s a place where ammunition was stored.

That was one of her tamer statements dressed up before a liberal audience. Such sweeping outright lies have been instrumental in the spread of anti-Muslim, anti-Sharia, and anti-Mosque hysteria in our country, materializing in over 800 documented cases of anti-Muslim violence and discrimination. When confronted about her lies, she will likely attempt to dismiss her critics as agents of the Mad Mullah Conspiracy, rather than owning up to the falsity of her claims.

It is sad that Darwish is still getting a pass on her bigotry and lies and finding mainstream audiences willing to listen to her spout her desire to see the demise and destruction of Islam. For more on Darwish read the article, Nonie Darwish Caught in a Pool of Lies.

  1. Nonie is hated by muslims because she speaks the truth about islam.

  2. anon

this is what MUSLIMS do, even though they shouldnt

    they hate on jews
they bring down women sometimes because of old culture
they don’t read the quran thoroughly

this is what Islam told us to do, although no one seems to care

be kind and bring peace to peoople of all religions
hold their women high above themselves because they are queens
(a sheikh was asked by a Brit, “Why aren’t Muslim women allowed to shake hands with any man?”

The sheikh said:”Is your Queen Elizabeth allowed to shake hands with any man?”

The brit said “Of course not, only certain men may shake her hand”

Sheikh said: ‘That’s why they can’t sake hands with just anyone, our women are like Queens”
Now if people followed this sheikh’s example, we wouldn’t have the problems we face today. And just so you know, SA makes up a lot of laws with no intention of even looking them up in the Quran. Women were allowed to own businesses and get educated but now because of the SA gov we’re seen as stupid women under the belt of our husbands. That’s not only the wrong image but the wrong way of treating muslim ladies.

And the fact that you can’t set aside your biased point of view to really sit down and study the Quran without looking at what people have done to it makes me sad. If i can read 1/3 of the torah without looking at what Israel is doing and making a judgement, you can do the same about Muslims.

But I guess people were right, God certainly has closed some hearts from light forever.

Something everyone should see. If you wanna understand Islam, don’t watch Glenn Beck, watch this. You’ll learn the Arab’s history, and the Muslim history. Very cool, very accurate.

  4. Hey hey, there you go another comedian slandering Muslims. don’t these women have families and kids?
    Allah iderweshha incha allah

  5. And what is YOUR truth??? That its pathetic to hide cowardly behind a keyboard spewing venom at people you’re afraid to know. That its sad when one is intellectually challenged to even bother doing a little more balanced research to get a more rational results. That you can’t bring yourself out of the darkness by simply stopping from using hate site to fulfill the appetite for bigotry. That is sad and lazy enough of you to get up and try to contact, interact, and get answers directly from the community you seem to hate so mutch without knowledge and foundation, other than what the islamophobes and their hate sites feed you? Or maby YOUR TRUTH is all of the above.

A wise man once said: “IGNORANCE IS BLISS”

Ignorance is bliss said he to me,
Your thoughts only stretch as far as you can see.
Forget other troubles that hold no concern,
Create your own fire where conscience can burn.
It’s here you’re successful, where dreams can now be,
Ignorance is happiness and it’s coming for me!

Igorance is incompetence said I to he,
You’re simply afraid of what you can’t see.
Around hidden corners is where life is true,
And you must understand that it’s coming for you.
For in its own time life deals a bad deck,
But ignorance is happiness so you’ve no need to fret.

Is ignorance reality or some innate desire?
To help overcome this conscience fuelled fire.
Is it the water to quench and forget?
Or is it your view that the future is set?
Be blind to your problems and soon you shall find,
That happiness, not ignorance, has left you behind!!

To @Anonymous… This should be your wake-up call. Its never too late!!!

  6. This Woman is So Ugly man!!

  7. Elle, the difference between Queen Elizabeth and the Muslim women being discussed is that the Queen can choose to shake hands with any man she wishes, even if it breaks protocol. The Muslim Women discussed would be disciplined or looked down upon if they took the same action. The important concept is the right to choose an action without fear of retribution or fear of social isolation. The words of the Sheikh were clever but disingenuous and misleading. Since Sheikh’s are from Arab countries I will limit my comments to Muslim Women in Arab Countries. From a paper dealing with human rights I found this information:

laws that restrict women’s rights remain in force in almost all Arab countries. In Syria, a husband can prevent his wife from leaving the country. In Egypt, Iraq, Libya, Jordan, Morocco, Oman and Yemen, married women must have their husbands’ written permission to travel abroad, and they may be prevented from doing so for any reason. In Saudi Arabia, women must obtain written permission from their closest male relative to leave the country or travel on public transportation between different parts of the kingdom.

According to the UN, “utilization of Arab women’s capabilities through political and economic participation remains the lowest in the world in quantitative terms….In some countries with elected national assemblies, women are still denied the right to vote or hold office. And one in every two Arab women can neither read nor write.”

These women do not sound like Queens to me. They sound like people whose lives are directly controlled by the males in their lives and that their ability to choose is impaired by the fact they are women.

Now, I realize that you or someone is going to say that this is Arab culture and not Islam. That is fine but then do not bring out examples from this Arabic culture to exemplify how Islam regards its women when the vast majority of the population in these countries are Muslim, and according to writers on this forum does not represent the views of Islam and violate the teachings of the Koran.

Question: Of the people who respond in this forum how many of you believe that Arabic countries practice Islam in the way ordained by Allah through the teachings of Mohammad?

  8. And for those of you who don’t know

Muslims gather to the mosque to pray the daily prayers. The old ladies gossip in the back, as Arab aja’iz (old people) do, the men sit around waiting, talking while the kids run around and tug at the sheikh’s robe. the women crowd around the sheikh’s wife or a newly wed woman, talking incessantly.

There is no, “plotting” and ‘calling for jihad”. If my mother was told that I was going to go on a suicide mission she’d kill me. No Muslim wants to die, wants their children or spouses or siblings to die for “jihad” purposes, again, whatever that is.

incitements against non Muslims my butt. Only losers would think that we’re going to waste prayer time to “plot” against people, especially when its against our beliefs to even do that.

What ammunition? If prayer rugs and a couple of Qurans are ammunition, then I’ll be damned. Go look in any mosque, you’ll find shoes, bratty kids, rugs, and a microphone, but no ammunition. these people make me laugh

  9. criley

I get what you’re saying, but like I’ve been saying, the Middle East is full of b.s., the gov is a load of crap wherever you go, the arab spring should change that. BUT, in Islam, a woman has to TELLher husband when she leaves the country and it has to be a legit reason like visiting parents or studying or whatever. to leave for no damn reason is just plain stupid. (if she wants a vacation I think it’s ok too) But of course, in any race or religion, what woman would just up and leave and not tell her hubby and family where she’s going (of course she’s gotta be in her right mind and willing to return)

  10. And not exactly. Lot’s of Muslim women sake hands with men, the only women who weren’t known t were the prophet’s wives. And its because of things likeAisha’s being accused of adultery that they knew they needed to be careful of. But we’re not saying Muslim women CAN’T. it’s simply a culture thing people worry about.

  11. “Question: Of the people who respond in this forum how many of you believe that Arabic countries practice Islam in the way ordained by Allah through the teachings of Mohammad?”

Depend on what you mean by “Arab countries”. If you’re talking about the Arab regimes, then None, since they’re either Secular dictatorship, or Monarchy dictatorship, and neither of those are approved by Islam.

If you’re talking about Arab individuals, again depend of what you mean by “practice Islam in the way ordained by Allah” – If you mean by that the basic practice of Islam, like the 5 Pillars, then those are unanimously agreed upon, and are practiced by the great majority of Arab countries. If you mean by the practice of moral and justice side of Islam, which are embedded in the Qur’an by Allah and throught the example and teachings of Prophet Muhammad, then we can fairly say the great majority of Muslims not just Arabs, have a general view of the moral and justice Islam entitles each and every individual. But how to implement, which way to implememt and to which extend, often are interpreted differently amoung the sectarian divide – From the highly conservative Wahabbi/Salafi [which are contrary to western misconceptions, a small minority, but also are themselfs divided into hartliners and more rationilst] – To the middle way moderates (which are the great majority, both amoung Sunnis and Shias) – To the more softer trend (though as religious as the others) of mystic Sufis.
As you may have noticed Islam is not, and never has been monolithic whatsoever, and that since the very beginning.

  12. We should just love each other.

  13. “Elle, the difference between Queen Elizabeth and the Muslim women being discussed is that the Queen can choose to shake hands with any man she wishes, even if it breaks protocol. The Muslim Women discussed would be disciplined or looked down upon if they took the same action. The important concept is the right to choose an action without fear of retribution or fear of social isolation”

First thing first, easy-up and refrain from the sweeping generalisations.

The term “Muslim Women” is broadly diverse. Which ‘Muslim Women’ are you referring to – Epypt’s Muslim Women, Turky’s Muslim Women, Malaysia’s Muslim Women, Indonesia’S Muslim Women, Saudi-Arabia’s Muslim Women, Iran’s Muslim Women, Africa’s Muslim Women, Euro/US Muslim Women, because even among those countries, or even within those countries the Muslim Women are broadly diversified. There are those Muslim Women who are very liberal. There are those who are very conservative. There are those who are highly educated both in Islam and secularism, and those who are Not. There are those who hold high university degrees, and those who are Not. There are those who have been and are in position of leadership and authority. And there are those who have been denied those opportunities, because of very patriarchal environment, and whatnot. As One can see there is great diversity of Muslim Women.

So for you to use a sweeping broad-brush to generalize Muslim woman, shows a level of general ignorance prevalent and very widespread in Western societies as to what Muslim Women are, and what they’re all about. And to reduce that of who can shake hands with men or Not, is utterly pathetic.

The business of shaking hands with the opposite sex, greatly differs amongst Muslim Women themselfs or Muslim Men themselfs. From those who do Not shake hands with the opposite sex because is a cultural norm in their societies – To those who are choosing Not to shake hands with the opposite sex because of modesty reasons – To those who sees no harm in shaking hands with the opposite sex, even though they are as religious as the others, without any “fear of retribution” from anyboby whatsoever. And of course there those both women and men, Although in tiny minority, who because of highly concentrated cultural conservatism in their surrendering areas, will be seen as ‘weirdos’ if they do so.
As for Islam and hand shaking between male and female, its Neither encouraged, Nor discouraged, its up to the individual usually, and the culture which he/she is been brought up.

And by the way, there are plenty of “modern”(what ever that mean) religious both male and female who do Not shake hands with the opposite sex, whether be Jewish or Muslims.
So again please refrain from the sweeping generalisations….Peace

  14. Sahra, If you read my post I limited my comments to only Muslim Women in Arab countries as stated in the last sentence of the first paragraph of the post. My intent was to narrow my comments because I realize that Islam has over 1 billion followers spread out over the entire world. Any general statement made by me or even another Muslim is likely suspect in regards to telling the whole truth.

  15. felixguilford

    amen bro

and watch the PBS documentary on Islam, doubt it? think it’s propaganda? that the Quran says differently? Read the quran, watch the doc. it’s all accurate. and really good

  17. “Sahra, If you read my post I limited my comments to only Muslim Women in Arab countries as stated in the last sentence of the first paragraph of the post. My intent was to narrow my comments because I realize that Islam has over 1 billion followers spread out over the entire world”

1 – Mr/miss Criley. One Thing, I hate games and beating around the bushes, moreover i detest people who play games and beat around the bushes in their bigotry. We have a word for those in Islam, We call them MUNAFIKS(hypocrites). I prefer mutch better the people like LovethemMoon, Anonymous, Kara ect… Who at leat are honest in their hate.
But i’ll dance with you On which ever foot you choose, whenever i’ll get the time to post on this site. I’ll pull NO punches, if you try to smear Islam, I’ll do the same with your faith, If you dicide to smear Muslims(women or men), i’ll do the same with yours. I ABSOLUTELY REFUSE TO “defend”(as some Muslims sadly have fall into) My FAITH, because ISLAM DOESNT NEED Anyboby’s defence whatsoever OTHER Than The ONE AND ONLY GOD(ALLAH) who decided to put IT(Islam) On this Earth since Prophet Adam(S.A.W) the first Man. And ESPECIALLY NOT FROM A GROUP OF PEOPLE who have a well Known Questionable Believes, Books, Motives, and an Highly Stained History Record THEMSELFS.

2 – YOUR “I limited my comments to only Muslim Women in Arab countries” EXCUCES Seem to me as ridiculous as someone saying: ……..Well The Western Christian Children are abused by the fathers of their churchs, and if they dont comply with the pedophilia abuses, they will be disciplined and looked down upon if they take action. But since the Pope is from a European country, i’ll limit that to the christian children of European countries…… And then, LOL. When that ridiculous comments have been cornered, The commenter replying excuses being – Sorry, But my intend was to narrow my comment to Only Christian Children from European countries, because i realize that Christianity has over 1 billion followers spread over the entire world….. Well such Excuse sound pretty pathetic to me.

3 – There are 23 Arab countries Mr/Miss Criley, Its highly Nonsensical to Generalize the Women from 1 country, let Alone From 23 Countries. This unwise generalisation of yours, It Amounts to as saying that because prostution and pornography are legal in some countries, therefore ALL women from those places are prostitutes, and pornography actrices.

  18. felixguilford,

if it was just that simple.

    Volume 4, Book 52, Number 44:

    Narrated Abu Huraira:

A man came to Allah’s Apostle and said, “Instruct me as to such a deed as equals Jihad (in reward).” He replied, “I do not find such a deed.” Then he added, “Can you, while the Muslim fighter is in the battle-field, enter your mosque to perform prayers without cease and fast and never break your fast?” The man said, “But who can do that?” Abu- Huraira added, “The Mujahid (i.e. Muslim fighter) is rewarded even for the footsteps of his horse while it wanders bout (for grazing) tied in a long rope.”

    Volume 4, Book 52, Number 46:

    Narrated Abu Huraira:

I heard Allah’s Apostle saying, “The example of a Mujahid in Allah’s Cause– and Allah knows better who really strives in His Cause—-is like a person who fasts and prays continuously. Allah guarantees that He will admit the Mujahid in His Cause into Paradise if he is killed, otherwise He will return him to his home safely with rewards and war booty.”

  19. m2

what is jihad? Jihad in arabic means struggle, in islam is means to struggle/fight for God, BUT ONLY if it’s very necessary, because God doesn’t love the war-starters. And those who blow themselves up in a mall or something while yelling “Allahu Akbar” (God is greater)are surely going to hell. It’s not in the name of Allah, it’s not real Jihad, and waging war for no reason especially when it’s against a Christian or Jew is forbidden. The only wars ever happening in the prophet’s time was against the Arab pagans, the Quraysh. And that’s because the pagans knew Islam was a threat to their sick lifestyle. The ones happening after Muhammad’s death (except the ones against the Persians who were pagans, also) came after the true message. People misinterpret the verses and act out on them violently.

Now, this is REAL Jihad. Wearing the hijab when everyone around you is going to treat you much much differently, negatively. Becoming Muslim even though your family will reject you. Or in Summayya (R)’s case, being killed for saying that God is one when everyone believed in many. The 72 virgins thing you hear of is for a certain type of Mujahid, usually a young man, chaste, who fights valiantly. Now to fight in the name of allah, you never hurt the nature, townsfolk, or their homes. You aren’t disrespectful to your opponent and you kill him (if you have to) by the swiftest way you can. Id have to look it up, but I’m pretty sure you’d have to do that.

Watch The Message. it’s a movie about the beginning of Islam and it’s growth. It’s a great, accurate movie.
