It follows five Muslim families who live in Dearborn, Mich. and how they balance their faith’s customs and celebrations alongside the misconceptions, challenges, and differences they encounter living in the U.S.

All-American Muslim is a perfect fit for TLC, inviting viewers into a world they might not otherwise experience,” says TLC GM Amy Winter. “Through these families and their diverse experiences, we will explore how they blend their values and traditions with everyday life in America.”

Dearborn apparently has one of the largest American Muslim communities in the nation and the largest mosque in the United States.

Watch the preview above. Below, here’s a sampling of the people who are featured in the series from TLC.

Suehaila and Shadia: Suehaila wears a traditional headscarf and follows daily prayer rituals—while Shadia, her outspoken sister, is decorated with piercings and tattoos and recently married Jeff, an Irish Catholic who is converting to Islam.

Nader and Nawal: Newlyweds expecting their first baby, Nader and Nawal are working to strike the right balance between their traditional Muslim roots and American culture.

Fouad: As head coach of the Fordson High School football team, Fouad has pioneered a shift in his team’s summer practice schedule by flipping to night workouts from 11pm-5am since a majority of his team are Muslim and fasting for Ramadan.

Mike and Angela: Mike, a deputy chief sheriff, and his wife Angela, a consultant to a major auto manufacturer, are juggling their busy careers with raising their four children in a modern Muslim family.

Nina: A strong independent Muslim businesswoman, Nina’s family runs the premier wedding and banquet hall in Dearborn—but against their advice, she is trying to venture off on her own to open a nightclub.

Samira and Ali: Samira and her husband of seven years Ali struggle with fertility issues and are pursuing numerous options including conventional fertility techniques, dietary alternatives and Muslim supplication prayers. After years of unsuccessful attempts, Samira considers putting on the Hijab in order to be closer to God and hopefully blessed with a child.

  1. Will they be showing Female Genital Mutilations? Wife Beatings? Forced Child Marriages? Honor Killings? Beheadings? If not, it’s not a reality show

“TLC already said that they have an agenda with this show–to make Muslims look like loyal Americans and good, normal people.  And yet the star of the show, Suehaila Amen, a devout hijab-wearing Shi’ite Muslim, is an open supporter of Hezbollah and HAMAS. She is an officer of an organization, the Muslim Lebanese American Heritage Club, which sponsored openly anti-Semitic Hezbollah rallies and anti-Israel rallies and was founded by Ali Jawad, a convicted insurance defrauder and known Hezbollah agent who sold smuggled Hezbollah cigarettes at his gas station.  She also organized this year’s fundraising banquet for the Michigan Chapter of the extremist CAIR Action Network, which is an unindicted co-conspirator in HAMAS fundraising according to the federal government.  Hey, TLC, there’s nothing “All-American” about fundraising for and supporting terrorist groups that murder Americans and other innocent civilians.  That’s a Muslim thing……….TLC already said that they have an agenda with this show–to make Muslims look like loyal Americans and good, normal people. “-Debbie Schlussel

“Whenever it casts unfavourable light on Muslims, it will be called racist; whenever it makes Americans look discriminatory, it will be called propaganda,” wrote one commenter, on the US site

  2. OH GO AWAY – and take you moronic crap with you!

Islam is not the same everywhere. Islam is a religion, not a culture. Islam is a religion, not an ideology.

Delusions of Eurabia: The Islamification myth, European Islamophobic Extremists and a rational picture of European Muslims.

“Clash of civilizations” has no place in a free, democratic society!

  3. Anonymous,

You may believe you know something about Islam, but you don’t. The things you mention are not Islamic issues, they are cultural. These things were practiced by the local cultural and are forbidden in Islam.

Then again, you probably do know something but, you also have an agenda which is one of the reasons you post as Anonymous.

  4. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with TLC and its programs (What Not to Wear=awesome! Toddlers and Tiaras=lose all faith in humanity!), but maybe a reality show is the best way to showcase the diversity of the US Muslim population. Maybe with so many people watching actual Muslims going about their everyday lives, it’ll lessen the influence of Islamophobia because people will realize how, well, normal most Muslims are.

  5. eslaporte,

“Islam is a religion, not a culture. Islam is a religion, not an ideology.”

really? are you muslim? i’ve always heard muslims say that islam is all encompassing. guiding one’s actions in all aspects of life. is that not right? how do you define ideology?

“An ideology is a set of ideas that constitutes one’s goals, expectations, and actions.”

  6. I thought this website was against Islamphobia and then here we see someone posting with pure ignorance of the whole thing. it just makes me sad…
