Pamela Geller May Regret Stirring Up a Hornet’s Nest of Bigotry

Pamela Geller May Regret Stirring Up a Hornet’s Nest of Bigotry

by Sheila Musaji

Pamela Geller just published another commentary on the “All-American Muslim” controversy.  In this she says If TLC does not renew the show, All-American Muslim, can we expect outrage, protests and cries of “islamophobia” fron [sic] these same Islamic supremacists and their slavish loudmouthed puppets?

Actually, the program itself was never the issue.  If viewers are not interested in the story line, or if it was too slow paced, or whatever, then they don’t watch.  This show like all others, stands or falls on viewer interest.  No one has any problem with that.

The ratings are low and the program probably won’t be renewed.  Fair enough.

The issue was also not with advertisers withdrawing, it was with the reasons for their withdrawal, and specifically with Lowe’s who said it withdrew due to pressure.  This is perhaps the first time that a major corporation has publicly admitted to discriminating against a minority community due to pressure from bigots.

Suggesting that any representation of Muslims should include negative stereotypes, or that there is no such thing as Islamophobia, or that standing up to bigotry makes one an “Islamic supremacist” or a “slavish loudmouthed puppet” is the response of a true dyed-in-the-wool bigot.  Islamophobia is real, as is anti-Semitism, homophobia, racism, and many other forms of bigotry.

I wish Geller would attempt to look at this objectively by replacing bigoted Jewish stereotypes with bigoted Muslim stereotypes in the FFA’s objections to the program:

Would it be bigotry if some group objected to a program because it only featured “ordinary appearing” Jews and did not include “legitimate concerns” about Jews who are controlling the media and the financial system and was therefore “inaccurately portraying Jews in America”?

Would it be bigotry if they were also “troubled by” one of the Jewish characters on the program having the nerve to say “I am an American” (the inference being that they aren’t “real” Americans).

Would it be bigotry if they were also objecting to a “Jewish tolerant” perspective (which can only infer that a Jewish intolerant perspective is what is required)?

Yes, it would be bigotry.

Pamela Geller’s Islamophobia is clouding her judgement about how closely anti-Semitism and Islamophobia, and all other forms of bigotry are linked.  Encouraging and condoning bigotry towards any minority ultimately can come to hurt all minorities.  Her ravings against Islam and Muslims are appealing to a certain segment of the population who need to have someone to blame and to look down on.  It is if she is taking a stick and sticking it into a hive of hornets and shaking it around and hoping she can control who those hornets sting.

When she opposes halal slaughter of animals and calls it “cruel”, it isn’t going to be long before her audience notices kosher slaughter.  When she opposes not only particular interpretations of some specific aspects of Sharia, but all of Sharia, it isn’t going to be long before her audience sees the similarities between Halakha and Sharia.  If it’s alright to take away Constitutional protections from Muslims, or any other particular minority, then it isn’t going to be long before her audience realizes they can take them away from others who they were never that fond of in the first place.

There is a reason that the ADL (A Jewish anti-defamation group) has said that Pamela Geller & Robert Spencer’s Stop the Islamization of America (SIOA) is a “group that promote an extreme anti-Muslim agenda”.  There is a reason that The Southern Poverty Law Center has designated SIOA as a hate group, and that they published Jihad Against Islam and The Anti-Muslim Inner Circle by Robert Steinback in their Summer 2011 Intelligence Report.  There is a reason that Geller and Spencer are featured prominently in the Center for American Progress “Fear Inc.” report on the Islamophobia network in America.  There is a reason that Geller is featured in the People for the American Way Right Wing Playbook on Anti-Muslim Extremism.  There is a reason that Geller is featured in the NYCLU reportReligious Freedom Under Attack:  The Rise of Anti-Mosque Activities in New York State.  There is a reason that Geller is featured in the Political Research Associates report Manufacturing the Muslim menace: Private firms, public servants, and the threat to rights and security.  There is a reason that Geller is featured in just about every legitimate report on Islamophobia and anti-Muslim hatred.

And, the reason is not that all of these organizations are “slavish loudmouthed puppets” of the “Islamic supremacists”.

If you take a stick and stir up a hornets nest, you can be pretty certain of the results, and there will be no way to control who gets stung..

Bigotry is bigotry, and it doesn’t matter who the target is.

  3. I figure she knows the real reason it’ll be cancelled is the low ratings. She just wants to be able to tell her ignorant followers that SHE caused it!

  4. Well written article.

  5. Well written article.

  6. The fallacy here is ascribing such a thing as judgement to Geller. Even the concept is foreign to her.

  8. I wonder what other problems besides lack of smarts and heart, which leads to not being a human being but a nazi.

  9. I wonder what other problems besides lack of smarts and heart, which leads to not being a human being but a nazi.

  10. She’s an ugly bitch, enough said.

  11. She’s a disgusting excuse for a human being. She thrives off of hatred and bigotry, she doesnt deserve any of the attention she gets.

  12. Lana, Cherie, Michael, and everyone else, I just want to say Thank You from the bottom of my heart for your understanding and for using your brain….something that Pam has not done up until this point. I want to send her a copy of the Qur’an. It’s time she does a little homework about a subject before talking negatively about it. And I forgive her ignorance. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) forgave the enemies in Makkah even after they tried to kill him many times. He pardoned them all, and told all the new Muslims to treat his enemies well. This kind of mercy is unparalleled. I want to be forgiving like him. I think educating Pam is the way for her to learn what hate is, and what it breeds in the hearts of ignorant people. I thank you all for supporting humanity thru love, understanding of diversity, and using logic. Pam needs to be educated. Simple as that.

  13. Pamela Geller is racist. She is a hateful and mean beast. She is so evil..

  14. people like her should be regulated to history, like the nazis ,kkk and most politetions

  15. @ Lara Nunes : semite is some race of people, its not whom speaking semitic languages..

  16. and I’ve seen plenty of these so called christens do plenty of killing ,rape

  17. neither democracy and laicité can give us answers about the problems of the daily life as the death the happyness the povrety and the the insecurity. try to take islam us a gnerality and dont take the fanatic exemple of islam and after you say this is islam you should think a lot

  18. Haters hate. It’s ugly in all forms.

  19. Haters hate. It’s ugly in all forms.

  20. Even Pamela can change for the better. The way we respond to people like her makes the difference.

  21. Has she ever been inside a mosque, talked to an Imam, or had dinner with a Muslim family? I think she needs to have these experiences first.

  22. Hating someone who hates is playing their game, and its a losing one. Bigots hurt not only the minorities, but the majorities as well. “A master is a slave to his slave.”

  23. For 6 months I was stationed at a very remote place on the coast of Kenya. The closest place was a fully Islamic village of Arab/Kenyans. They respected and looked after me very well including rescuing me when our landrover rolled over. I loved going to the women

  24. ‘women’s quarters and being with the “girls”!

  25. yep, though i still say that an invisible minority status and visible minority status are not the same, and are not in general experienced the same in the world.

  26. This is the disgusting thing about Pamela Geller and the truly ignorant thing about it. As a Jewish person I believe that persons of all faiths should be treated with all courtesy and respect. I also believe that the kind of bigoted rage that Ms. Geller foments has never ended well for the Jewish people. Hate ultimately is never selective. I also believe that much of this anti-islamic bigotry is driven by the Israeli government which is betraying the American Jewish community. It is also the Israeli leadership whose judgement is so clouded with their own bigotry it is starting to turn against itself, as hate always does.

  27. This is stupid. You are acting like people can’t have opinions about Islam. Not all negative opinions about Islam are uninformed opinions. A lot of moderate muslims are ignorant about their religion.

  28. jack stone u know more about islam than muslims (moderate or no) ?, in fact there re nothing called moderate muslims but yes much muslims ignorate about their religion and the worse some ppl get advantege with that for make bad image of islam..

  29. @jack do you know who geller is?? All of her opinions are completely uniformed and based on nothing but pure hatred.

  30. Then why are you promoting her opinion? I know a lot about Islam, I have been to mosque and have muslim and ex-muslim friends. It does way more harm than good for something that isn’t based on reality.

  31. just for that then mean u know about islam ? man u find muslims living with majority muslims their family re muslims in islamic countries but they don’t know about islam..

  32. I study Islam and all religion. I think it has been a huge mistake and people still want to perpetuate this ignorance.

Disbelievers will wear garments of fire, boiling fluid will be poured on their heads, their bellies and skin will be melted, they will be tormented with iron hooks, and when they try to escape they will be driven back with the taunt: Taste the doom of burning. 22:19-22

Please tell me why I should respect a religion that teaches such evil to their children?

  33. lol so u will show some verses as u like and say this is the islam, u study other religions u said, well give me one religion dont talk about punishement of wicked people ? for ur children u can start teach them peace and love that u can find most verses in quran talk about that

  34. lol so u will show some verses as u like and say this is the islam, u study other religions u said, well give me one religion dont talk about punishement of wicked people ? for ur children u can start teach them peace and love that u can find most verses in quran talk about that

  35. That is Islam straight from the Quran and I have verified that it isn’t out of context. It’s an obvious tactic to scare people into believing something that isn’t true for power. I will teach my children peace and love without the help of a religion since none of them are true anyway. Any religion that teaches their kids about a hell is ignorant and debtably evil.

  36. @Jack Stone, how is that so different from the hellstone and brimfire that Christianity preaches????

  37. It’s not. That is why I think they are both pretty disgusting teachings.

  38. its ur own opinion of islam and religion in geniral, maybe u will teach ur kids who make bad act will get a candy and assassins will never be judged or punished just bcs for u laws re only for scare ppl..

  39. if u read quran and know islam realy then u will find its based in 2 things as all religions that the nature of all world working on it.. u will find the side with attraction (seductive if can say) with love peace and paradise and the other side who afraid and scare ppl with hell and punishement.. the nature of humans work like this and u can not change it

  40. Assassins? Lol. Just because people that commit evil may not receive some sort of justice it doesn’t mean that you have to create some make believe scenario where we are judged for our lives after death, that is a comforting thought but it is also fairy tale bullshit. You think you can’t have order and good moral teaching without religion? That is sad. You can teach your children right and wrong with out deluding them with a religion and the fear of eternal punishment.

  41. Exactly. It is such an obvious tactic to trick someone into believing something.

“Do what I say and you will get a paradise after you die but if you disobey then you will be punished eternally.”

This is childish nonsense. Never trust anyone that promises you something after you die because no one knows and you are gullible to do so.

  42. Amen!

  43. I think speaking out against the concern of a. teaching like Islam is ignorant in itself. If the Quran was the teaching of a cult in some remote compound like a David Koresh type scenario then you would think it is evil and want to save those children. It seems like the truth of it has been measured in mass appeal.

“When one person suffers from a delusion it is called insanity. When many people suffer from a delusion it is called religion.”

  44. about children they can not see the evil part of world the time they have their innocense so the way u will teach them is depend with that… but u can not say the human can have another logic about the punishement and justice… without give them clearly image of that.. as the nature of human its learning from their experience and rare and very hard learning from experience of others only if that happened so close to them..cause that descripting punishement look so simple but can reach you more than ur own thoughts..

  45. again jack its about ur own opinion, for ppl belive in god the promise is from god as u will go back to him after die, about paradise and hell its logic when u make good act u waiting reward and for bad act u wait punishement, who can think the opposate of that.. we need laws for protect our liberty and rights, and who not obey in this laws will get punishement..lot of ppl suffer from a delusion and its called control of mind by a system

  46. If you think you can reach something other than your own thoughts then you are suffering from a delusion, mental asylums are full of people that think this. They have no justification for believing that other than they’ve been taught it and there are a lot more good reasons not to believe it. Religion is based on an uninformed opinion. It is also a opinion that you will reincarnate after you die. There is no way proving any of these opinions, they are all fantasy. The same thing happens when you die as the countless time before you were born, non existence. Our brain shuts down, we no longer can experience consciousness and we rot in the ground. This can be proven in certain ways and any other explanation has been myths and fairy tales.

  47. but more importantly.. lies.

  48. Pam needs serious help, i mean serious one. This is the kind of people who start Genocide and feel like nothing happened and to me Only a psycho do that.I wonder if she knows that genocide against Jews started that way!!

  49. we can have same brain but different views as each one have his own education and experience of life.. to have religion and belive in god doesnt mean stop thinking or be condemned to live in illusion as many atheist thinking, its not limited ur rights its exactly the opposate we need looking for the reason of our existance and search the truth in nature and life( this philosophic topic so no need enter in debate about this now).. when u said brain shuts down its a scientific argument for explain there re no life after die, do u can explain by science the existance of life from nothing? plus i watch ounce ime a video about french doctor made search and experience prouve the existance of life after even brain shut down, ppl who got chance to be saved can talk about many things shouldnt know them, yes it seem a fantasy or fiction but we living inside many mysterious things and science give answer to soo little against lots of mysters..we can not explain what is god thats not mean he doesnt exist.. might we have not tools for that at the moment but who know later and i talk about our brain, the nature and logic things let us thinking what is the reasons with our life when evrything will end without next.

  50. Let’s learn from history (courtesy of Pastor Niemoller who learnt too late):In Germany they first came for the Communists,
    and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist.

Then they came for the Jews,
    and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
    and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant.

Then they came for me —
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

  51. Get over it . 90% of america feels the same.

  52. Wow some of you are just as ignorant as geller!

  53. Religious people are ignorant. It is the main source of hate and conflict in the world and you are here defending it. That is ignorance.

  54. Jack would you consider Jainists a source of hate?

  55. No I also wouldn’t consider those religious principles. To not harm your fellow creatures is basic common sense.

  56. @ Jay Perry, 90% of America feels the same way??? Hahaha, then that 90% can move to Saudi Arabia, because I’m(and all the other Muslims in America) ARENT GOING ANYWHERE. Get over it. And quit crying about 9/11 already, its been 10 years, time to stop beating a dead horse

  57. Hateful woman.

  58. No they don’t Jay.

  59. @jack stone
If you bothered to look through islamic history or just asked a sheikh, you wouldve learned that most of the verses concerning “kufar” and disbelievers are aimed at the people of quraysh, the arab pagans who killed muslims in early islam just because they preached the oneness of god.
Also muslims dont teach their children hate. Islam preaches tolerance and forgiveness. When i was in sunday school they taught us abt praying fasting friendship and the love of god. Idk where yoyr ideas come from but im deeply offended.

  60. she is an idiot!

  61. jack what mean religious people ? who have faith in god ? and man the main source of hate is the intolerance, and this what u defending here, u should respect who havent same ideology as u..

  62. Why should I respect fairy tales for grown ups? Ones that have been the main source of hate and conflict in the world. Faith is ignorance, it is believing something for no reason other than you want to believe it and yet people with faith that can’t even justify their beliefs want to impose their will on the rest of the world.

  63. They are lies that being perpetuated for power and have been the main source of evil in the world, I’m not going to respect it, I’m going to fight it.

Have your say!
