Group: Mosque attack in Quebec is hate crime

3 January 2012 General 8 Comments Email This Post Email This Post

A major Canadian Muslim organization wants swift action against people who smashed windows at a mosque in Gatineau, Que., and tried to torch two cars in the parking lot.

There were no injuries.

The Canadian Council on American-Islamic Relations says Gatineau must investigate the attack as a hate crime.

The organization says it is not the first time the mosque has been the target of vandals.

The council says that attacks such as the early morning vandalism in Gatineau divide communities by stigmatizing visible minorities.

It added, however, that it does not believe that the criminal action reflects the viewpoints of most Canadians.

The Gatineau incident was not the only attack in recent days against Muslims. New York police are investigating a series of arson attacks in the Queens borough on Sunday in which one of the targets was an Islamic centre.

  1. It’s a terrorist attack.

  2. Idiots………. thats all. Just idiots who have no tolerance

  3. I would too.

  4. The new equality: Muslim jaywalks = terrorism; Muslims attacked=jaywalking

  5. :( I live in Quebec and this is shameful!!! (to say the least) :(

  6. who cares act like thy dont mess america up just by being here

  7. this is dispicible to attack a house of god. Quick action needs to be taken by the police and Provence.

  8. There are only 2 kinds of people on this planet…Good and Bad. A person’s religious beliefs has nothing to do with whether they are a good person or a bad person. There are hypocrites in every religion. We are all part of an amazing journey and those who truly have God in their hearts would never attack someone for their beliefs.
