David Gaubatz: Co-Author of “Muslim Mafia” Asserts that the Government and Muslims Colluding to Indoctrinate Children

by Jacob Hausener

“Muslim Children are Being Taught to Hate” rang the title of a Family Security Matters article written by David Gaubatz, co-author of “The Muslim Mafia” and director of “The Mapping Sharia’ Project.” Gaubatz’s name may not be familiar to many of you but he is one cog in the well-oiled cottage industry of Islamophobia.

Before we get into the article a brief bio of Gaubatz is in order.

David Gaubatz

Gaubatz has a history of making huge claims without substantiating them with evidence, i.e. “lying.” For instance, after the invasion of Iraq he claimed to have discovered WMD’s, he provided no evidence and so his claims were summarily dismissed. He refers to Barack Obama as “our Muslim president.” He also has a history of faking “conversions” to Islam as part of his “investigations.”

Gaubatz joined David Yerushalmi’s racist organization, SANE (Society of Americans for National Existence), and headed “The Mapping Shariah Project” which put forward the claim that 80% of mosques in the USA preached “radicalism and terrorism.” This claim has now become a narrative used often by Islamophobes.

The Mapping Shariah Project has never been published, a snippet that included the “80% of Mosques are radical” claim is the only “finding” ever produced, and it was published on the radical right-wing Christian website World Net Daily.

Gaubatz continued his anti-Muslim activity by co-authoring a book, “The Muslim Mafia” with fellow Islamophobe, Paul Sperry. The central claim of the book was that Muslim spy interns had nefariously infiltrated our government, the claim was lambasted by Newsweek in 2009 as one of the wackiest “conspiracies of 2009.”

Muslim Children being taught to hate?

Gaubatz has continued his anti-Muslim activism contributing regularly to the far right website Family Security Matters. Gaubatz piggy-back’s off of his discredited “Mapping Shariah” project, amplifying it this time by saying that Muslim children are being indoctrinated into “hate.”

He does so deceptively, once again resorting to his time worn methodology of lying. He claims that,

In the last five years I have personally visited over 250 Islamic Centers, Mosques, and Islamic Schools throughout America. The goal of my research has been to determine what Islamic leaders are teaching the young and innocent Muslim children. The findings are abhorrent, sad, unbelievable, frightening, and most disturbing is the fact our government is keeping this dangerous fact from the American people. Muslim children attending mosques and Islamic schools are being taught to hate America, our government, our military personnel, and its non Muslim population.

Gaubatz’s claims are consistent with the paranoia and hysteria that drenches the anti-Muslim movement. He presents the idea of a hidden, frightening, pervasive, monolithic indoctrination into extremism of Muslim children with the help and collusion of our “government.”

Gaubatz is trying to kill two birds with one stone: smear and fear-monger about Muslims while at the same time attempting to link Barack Obama’s administration to Islamic extremism. Gaubatz after all believes Muslim spy interns are controlling our Congress, he also believes Obama is a “Muslim” and a “crackhead.”

This in itself, along with the fact that all Gaubatz provides as evidence that Muslim children “are being taught hate” are supposed anecdotal encounters with Muslims in Islamic bookstores is enough to dismiss his claims.
