Murfreesboro: right-wing Islamophobe trains deputies

MURFREESBORO, TN — A group that states on their website that the “Islamic Movement” is a “threat to our civil liberties” is training deputies in Rutherford County this week.

Deputies from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department are getting three days of training from Strategic Engagement Group, a Washington-based nonprofit that says its purpose is to counter the Unified Islamic movement in the United States.

The debate concerning construction of an Islamic Center in Rutherford County has been the subject of much debate over the last few years. The project’s faced a court fight, vandalism and arson. Tennessee Freedom Coalition, which openly opposed the new mosque, hired the Washington-based nonprofit.

On Monday, Strategic Engagement Group held a free seminar for the community, but Channel 4’s cameras were not welcome. John Guandolo, the vice president of the Strategic Engagement Group, spoke at the event and pushed a Channel 4 camera that attempted to record the seminar.

Channel 4 was allowed to listen to him speak but could not record it. Guandolo talked about Hamas and its plan to destroy Western civilization from within, and spoke of Islamic centers as potential military compounds.

The local sheriff’s department would not talk on camera about its decision to train deputies using this company. Deputies are able to use the training toward their Post Commission required annual training.

Monday’s event was held at the World Outreach Church in Murfreesboro, which has been a vocal opponent of the new Islamic Center being built in Rutherford County.

Channel 4 checked with the Post Commission, which develops and enforces training and standards for all police officers in Tennessee. According to the Post, they allow individual law enforcement agencies to determine what training can count for the yearly minimums required of every officer.

Guandolo takes the view that in the US “the major threat does not come from terrorist attacks. It comes from the Muslim Brotherhood”.

  1. Shame!

  2. Oh about drugs, and alcohol..and free sex..they are not a threat?

  3. Ignorant, fearful, fools!!!

  4. Hahahnaha on ly in the south do they have groups like that…

  5. good lord! just how crazy are we all going to get?

  6. Ugh. On behalf of the non-idiots in Murfreesboro, I’m sorry.

  7. No not really Lilia? I mean religion is far more a danger than any of that period, all religion, and in the US, its the christhadists. #godHATESfacts

  8. Here we go again.. they obviously want war and don’t care that in this country of America there are 25 million practising Muslims plus another 25 million Asians who’ll side with them, especially after the Bush years, and who knows how many other minority groups that are sick of these antics who’ll stand by and defend as well…
For the record, out of the 7 billion reported humans on the planet…
There are over 2 billion Muslims. Hint: If they really were all out for war.. you’d know about because it would be bloody obvious if that many people got hacked off at you..

This event is planned for next month in Murfreeboro. It is hosted by Young Americans for Liberty at MTSU, and will include a lecture by the National Director of Muslims for Liberty.

  10. ^ JNathanial you made me LOL, great post. Although I am Muslim and 25 million is a new number to me…..I was under the impression there was only 3 million but anyway I’ve been saying the same thing for YEARS…even before I was a muslim

  11. they plan to stream the event so that people can watch live from home if you aren’t in the area.

  12. I live in New York City because it is a “melting pot” of myriad ethnicities and religions. I am seriously not considering moving to a southern state because I would NOT just “lay down and die”; as an American taxpayer that is Muslim I would call EVERY FEDERAL AGENCY AND COMPLAIN until something is done. I would ask imams to hold prayers on the streets until CNN and other broadcast networks televise our efforts and discuss our plight- religious persecution. Some might say, “should of, would of, could of” but I choose to live in N.Y. so that my children don’t have to be part of a civil war.

  13. @JJ brand well just compare how many people died in the name of religion or because misuse of religion compare that to how many people die of drugs, alcohol, and sti..?

  14. Myles not so. There’s plenty anti Islam groups allover the US

  15. Rachel that just shows how ignorant people are and you are not helping the cause and that is not something you should be proud in announcing.

  16. What slimy holes are these creeps crawling out of? They remind me of the type of stereotyping of people we criticized the “status quo” for during the civil rights movement of the 1960s.

  17. Maz I’m.simply stating a fact.

  18. if ur stating a fact Rachel, u should also have a source. which u never provide.

Have your say!
