Anti-Muslim Rhetoric in the USA is Noticed in the Middle East

2 March 2012 General 53 Comments Email This Post Email This Post

TUNIS, Tunisia (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton advised an audience in Tunisia on Saturday to “not pay attention” to the comments made by candidates vying for the Republican presidential nomination, saying the often overheatedrhetoric of the campaign doesn’t reflect U.S. policy.

Speaking at a town-hall style event in Tunisia, the North African nation that sparked the “Arab Spring” revolts, Clinton said the partisan remarks made during campaign events “certainly don’t reflect the United States, don’t reflect our foreign policy, don’t reflect who we are as a people.”

Clinton’s remarks came in response to a question from a member of her audience who said he was troubled by some of the comments, which he considered anti-Muslim, made by candidates running for president.

“If you go to the United States, you see mosques everywhere, you see Muslim-Americans everywhere. That’s the fact. So I would not pay attention to the rhetoric,” she said.

Instead, she advised people to listen instead to President Barack Obama.

“I think that will be a very clear signal to the entire world as to what our values are,” Clinton said.

She added that she is sometimes surprised that people around the world pay more attention to what’s said in U.S. political campaigns than do most Americans.

“I think you have to shut out some of the rhetoric and just focus on what we’re doing and what we stand for and particularly what our president represents,” Clinton said.

Obama has come under fierce criticism from Republicans for apologizing for the burning of Qurans at a military base in Afghanistan.

GOP hopeful Newt Gingrich said while campaigning that the apology was “astonishing” and that Obama “has gone so far at appeasing radical Islamists that he is failing in his duty as commander in chief,”

American military officials say the burning of the Muslim holy books was a mistake, but it has sparked days of violent protests across Afghanistan.

  1. Sooo were worried about what the Death to America crowd says?

  2. Do Muslims really think that anti-American rhetoric in the Middle East goes unnoticed by Americans?

  3. Take all pols with a grain of salt including Hilary.

It’s another mirror image. It’s ok for muslim mobs to rampage and murder and oppress but they get nervous at any cross words coming their way from the other side. Tolerance for me but not for thee.

  4. Criley
So now Arabs are the death to America crowd.

No anon, but if we all came together and tried to learn instead of kill things would go a lot better. And im saying both sides. No sense in telling Afghanistan to chill out if youre dropping bombs and waging war against it.

  5. You gys are idiots. Try GOING to the Middle East, see how how pro-western they are. Ugh. Of all the people here, im the Middle Eastern one. Step aside and just listen for once.

  6. Elle, you and yours don’t hang around with these wild types that want to kill and attack for Allah and the deen. I bet some people at your mosque do, and maybe some imams you know.

That is why they call it islamic terrorism. It is promoted by those who are supposed to be governing the religion. Not just by wild yahoos on the fringe.

  7. Govern the religion?

Not necessarily…at least not here. Imams and Sheikhs are usually the opposite. There are Shiite sects that believe Imams are the reincarnate of God . Which defeats the whole purpose of being muslim… But anyway. My mosque is small and boring. And we have to 2 sheikhs. A chubby guy with an attitude and a really soft spoken guy. So not my masjid, in fact all they do is pray for Syria

No its more of the ‘yahoo’ thing

  8. No one is going to say to you, hey, Elle, we’re going over to Godhra and burn a train or burn down a church in Nigeria this afternoon would you like to come.

I would expect everyone at this point to be careful of what they are saying.

  9. Maybe Arabs are not the death to America crowd. Its just that when I see large crowds chanting “death to America” they are middle eastern and I assume Muslim.

  10. What they would do is ask for a donation for the poor people in wherever.

  11. Not all Arabs are Muslim and not all Muslims are Arab. Iranis and Afghans arent considered Arab so cross it off the list

    Anon
We woulda found out it so and so did that or that. Lol it woulda gotten out.

  12. *if

  13. Besides yahoos it is also done and supported by respected doctors, techs, engineers, etc. You da bomb, baby!

  14. So Muslim doctors, engineers and other proffesionals are also terrorists eh? No they didnt just aspire to help people or because theyre parents pushed them to be the best. They just want to be terrorists. Like the Muslim medic that died saving people during 9/11.

Anon, you’re just so arrogant. I’m really disgusted.

  15. That must mean my dentist is a terrorist, too! And my doctor, wait no hes polish, couldnt possibly be a danger to society.

  16. What’s most distressing is that the yahoos on both sides get the press because they make the most noise. Extremists in the Middle East and America speak the language of fear to control people. Then they can forward their fundamentalist agenda and create a state religion. Am I talking about a radical imam or Rick Santorum? What’s the difference? Most of us want to live and worship in peace. When do we get OUR 15 minutes? Who really speaks for us?

  17. elle,

you must not be familiar with sami al-arian? how about muhammad and megahed. you should come down to the university of south florida. (btw, it’s in tampa, not really south florida). sami was a proffesor, started a think tank (WISE) in the 90’s. brought in some of his boys from palestine. he gave speeches (one in which he clearly says death to america, he’s an arab, right) to raise money for the palestinian islamic jihad. http://www.fbi.gov/wanted/wanted_terrorists/ramadan-abdullah-mohammad-shallah his brother-in-law, former usf proffessor. no of course not all muslims are terrorist. just the one’s who are. i love it when this site give stats. what was the last article? 196 planned attacks since 9/11? down last year from 26 to 20. lol, yeah no big deal, only 20 muslims last year wanted to kill americans. yeah, ONLY 7% of terrorists are muslims. well considering they only make up 1% of the population, that’s a 7 fold over representation. plus if you look at the 1980 -2005 fbi report that has been posted here. non muslim terrorist have killed about 300 people in those 25 years (mcveigh being the big chuck at 168. muslims about 3000. so the .06% caused over 90% of the deaths and injuries. sorry for the estimates but the actual numbers are on my home computer that is blocked by the islamophobia today guys. how ironic. who has an irrational fear of who? i also love the spin. “home grown”, so what is homegrown? no “civilian deaths”, those bastards at fort hood got what they deserved, right? clearly most american muslims aren’t terrorist. or else america would look more like the middleast and north africa with weekly bombings. but elle you have to admit to there being problems within the “holy” texts of islam. the first thing you have to do to solve a problem, is to identify it.

you’ve confused me again. before you said the only difference between shia and sunni was the ali dispute over who should have been the first caliphate? now you say “There are Shiite sects that believe Imams are the reincarnate of God.” 12fers?

  18. http://www.wtsp.com/news/article/231011/250/Potential-targets-find-alleged-Tampa-terror-plot-disturbing

but yeah, by all means keep an eye on that polack doctor of yours and don’t worry about any muslims in your community.

    criley,

i think you’re thinking of the iranians, they like too bring out the big crowds chanting. most those people are suppossedly paid? they’re ethnic persians. they are muslims though, or maybe not, being shia and all? hard to figure out what each group of muslims consider to be “true” muslims? who’s a hypocrite, who’s an apostate, a pagan, a polythiest, an athiest, a blasphemer, who should be fought in allah’s cause. who should recieve rajm, or a different means of execution…etc.etc

  19. Your right Mike, the Tunisa Muslims chant “Death to the Jews” and “We’ll redo the battle of Khaibar” in which Jews were killed by Mohammed. So I guess these are not the Death to America crowd and I have done them an Injustice.

  20. What about Anti- Corporate Rhetoric? Is that ok?

  21. Hilary in 2011!

  22. pay no attention to the man behind the curtain….

  23. Yes it does lol

  24. Start paying attention if they get elected, though. :/

  25. Secretary Clinton was answering a question from a member of the audience that asked about anti-Muslim rhetoric. The issue of “anti-corporate” rhetoric is not what this page or the question from the audience member is about.

  26. She is partyl correct though. It is called politics, and well, that’s what it is. They show Romney supporting health care in the past and he is forced to deny his current support because it would hurt his campaign. He would soften on it once in office again of course. What SHOULD be troubling is that there is a large number of people that these messages are made for.

  27. Perhaps they and UK administration then should not pay attention to what Abu Qatada says :) What hypocrisy, If a right wing Muslim says something, the entire media creates a storm and when a POSSIBLE US FUTURE PRESIDENT is making Islamophobic remarks, we should just ignore him!

  28. Perhaps them and UK administration then should not pay attention to what Abu Qatada says :) What hypocrisy, If a lunatic Muslim says something, the entire media creates a storm and when a POSSIBLE US FUTURE PRESIDENT is making Islamophobic remarks, we should just ignore him!

  29. I notice far more antiamerican comments from the middle east than I do anti Muslim here in America. When was the last time a US ruler said death to Islam.

  30. What about all the anti Sharia bills being passed by legislatures of various States, by now more than 50% of the states?

  31. And what are Muslims in America supposed to do when these people may potentially be our leaders?

  32. The anti islamic rhetoric is actual descrimination and hate that lives in the hearts of disbelieving americans and is hurled at the muslims in america whether they be foriegn or not on a daily basis.

  33. Layla: they should VOTE OBAMA 2012!!! :)

  34. SIMPLE: Allah says there are 2 kinds of People of the Book: those trustworthy and those NOT. So stick to the good one’s – support them and help them – the BAD ones can go to hell.

  35. Many of these candidates are already in leadership positions in this country. Americans should be humiliated to have such bigots representing us to the world, let alone running for the Presidency.

  36. Once ppl started aiming at religion instead of political issues, the game has been changed forever. how can u defeat GOD……no matter what the devil makes u feel or think-Islam is the Creators way HE wants us to follow. May HE guide us to truth in these last days

  37. Ebonee Williams, they think they are the believers, and you are not. They also think everybody else who does not believe in their strange interpretation of the Bible is an unbeliever, and that includes me. I consider myself a Christian, I don’t know what they are (poor examples of Christians, to be sure!!). I don’t like them. They need to keep their hateful diatribes to themselves. I see them as akin to Islamic extremists that are responsible for the Islamophobia which is damaging human relations globally.

  38. So why USA call those countries terrorist who have some of the residence with extreme views. Those or not the policies of Islamic countries neither. So double standard

  39. Diplomats never tell you to go to hell, they lead you the way to hell in a Diplomatic Language.if she was saying that ”the candidets’ opinion do not reflect the peoples’ feelings towards Muslims”,i would certainly blieved her.coz you(non-Muslim Americans in this page) are the clear evidences of that!!
Sorry Mss Clinton,we still remember how much promises president Obama made, and we know how much of them he kept(**Remembering those Muslim Civilians who are still getting killed by the drone attacks, mostly children, women and the elderlies without any ”enemy militants” in sight around them,in Afganistan and Pakistan and may be in some other places).so don’t try to sell us your pseudo Diplomacy:P

  40. This page is filled with anti American rhetoric. Hell, one time there was a chick commenting on an article blessing jihadists. This page needs to get a revamp

  41. *commenting on an article and saying a blessing for jihadists*

  42. I love Hillary. She had my vote.

  43. Way to go Hillary! Knew I liked that woman!

  44. REALLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  45. Ooh I’m offended. Polack doctor. He’s adorable , teddy bearish. It’s his fugly wife I dont like. Anyways, no I worry. I get very embarassed. Offended. Sad. Scared as hell. But I can’t just march around yelling about how the Middle East and extremists all suck when people here are always attacking my religion and blaming people like me, for things I don’t even know about. I didn’t know about 9/11 til i was 11, and it happened 4 years before. Until I can educate as many ignorant non Muslims and islamophobes about my religion so they understand where I’M coming from and how I feel about this. muhammad would weep if he saw Saudi Arabia. He’d warned his people about aristocracies and monarchies like that, forced marriage, forgiveness beforepunishments and all that. Someone should give the Prophets last sermon to King A.

Palestinian jihadist: well, as a Palestinian who’s seen dead people, demolished homes, Israeli jeeps circling my father’s village because of a 12 am curfew. Arabs stay up a lot longer than that. Remember that day still. Someone came in through the black gate and whispered/screamed: “jayeen al Yahood” the Jews are coming! So all the adults turned off the lights, shut up and ducked. They had to cover our mouthes because the kids were scared. Then the time I was physically harassed by the male and female Israeli soldiers when I was 15, because of my braces, the stories my dad told me about how at 7 years old he, my grandfather, aunt, and then pregnant grandmother had to evacuate their village and leave everything behind for 3 days during the six day war. That’s traumatizing for a child. And his sister who moved to Jordan later to escape the violence. Then my dad and all his 5 brothers, a few of his nephews and friends were imprisoned, tortured, and lied to by Israeli prison gaurds. Why were they in prison? They protested Israel’s genocidal butt. And sadly, I wish to know what the Nakba (’48 catastrophe) was like, coming straight from a person who experienced it. My Sido was already 48, so he wouldve remembered plenty, but he died so Im stuck with no direct accounts. Sigh. Maybe I woulda been traumatizef if I had heard his story. Im already disgusted by everything else.
So there is my not sob story. So do not look at a Palestinian resistance and say Jihadist and terrorist. It’s a movement by people who happen to be Muslim, so they called it that. It’s human rights. You deny that and you’re an evil demon.

Sunni/shiite; started out as a division between ali and Abu Bakr supporters. Then later as time passed, they developed seperate beliefs. It’s like Catholicism and Greek Ortho Christianity. Now wwe have like 103246 different sects of Christianity. Mormons, Baptists, Lutherans, Evangelical, etc.

Khaibar: actually. The Quraysh were sore losers about losing to the Muslims in the Battle of Badr and the Trench.SO, they approached the only monotheists besides the Muslims in Madina, a few groups of Jews. They had been the Muslims allies, but the Quraysh turned them against the Muslims. So they fought. It’s not a slaughter of Jews or anything of the sort. Those Muslims need to revisit Islamic History. Again…embarassing. Sometimes I feel like the only real Muslim in the world. And Im not that great. Still gotta make up those days before Ramadan. Ya rab sabirniiii

    Sorry, venting.

Its very sad. Muslims who blame Jews for everything. I blame zionism, but others well…for example, whenever something bad happens they say “curse the Jews” “damn the Jews” and Im like, “by curding Jews you’re cursing almost every single prophet, Muhammads wife Sofia, and good Jews like Jon Stewart and Max Blumenthal” and they try to justify it by saying that Sofia converted to Islam, every prophet followed Islamic monotheism, and good Jews dont have to be counted. And im just like “ya im not always comfortable talking to Jews and stuff but if you think you give God that crappy explaination good luck”. -_- And you cant forget, there are some dumbass Jews who will say the same thing. were both at fault for not educating ourselves properly. Of course, Israelis teach their kids how to shoot Arabs because at 18 they join the military, and Arab, well lets face, its a miracle if they make it to school without being bombed or shot at.

  46. Sorry, seitch that * punishment INSTEAD of forgiveness. He forgave adulterers, drunks, etc

  47. Fudge

    *switch

  48. Wish you’d post the original link here. Some people won’t bother to read a share from Islamophobia Today and will miss that it’s from a source they will credit, such as this from AP.

  49. Biblical Jesus.. A Jihadist?

“But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them–bring them here and kill them in front of me.'”

    Luke 19:27

  50. How can u commit mass murder on a ppl then play with words n expect them to respect u at all? The leaders dont speak for the ppl-they speak at us and dictate in thier worldly comfort while innocent ppl are killed and harrassed due to thier belief in God. They want to put out the light of God with thier mouths-but God will perfect His light no matter how His enemies hate it! The righteous will be persecuted in the last days and right now the world is in confusion. We have already been informed of these events that are infesting the earth. Either ur a friend of God, or His enemy….and we know what He will do to them soon. Dont be fooled by these dark times…Believe, and know that the Creator and all the prophets HE sent spoke the truth ! ALL OF THEM!

  51. She’s right, pay no attention to what they say. Pay all attention to what they DO.
