Investigators have not determined what caused a fire at a construction site for a funeral home and cemetery to serve the Islamic Society of Nevada. The location is 4425 E. Cartier Ave., near Lamb Boulevard and Carey Avenue.

Now knowing that this was human-caused, I truly hope it was not intentional.

Vegas-area mosque site blaze ruled human-caused

Authorities in Las Vegas say a two-alarm blaze that destroyed a mosque under construction in Las Vegas in February was human-caused, but they don’t know whether it was intentional.

Clark County Fire Chief Bertral Washington and Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agent Thomas Chittum III said Monday that investigators have exhausted leads following the Feb. 22 fire.

They say they’re going to need public help to solve the case.

The overnight blaze caused $1.5 million in damage at the site where a nearly 10,500-square-foot Muslim funeral gathering center and a cemetery were to have opened this year.

ATF agents were on the case because of the religious nature of the site. But officials say no evidence collected so far indicates the fire was a hate crime.

  1. Hey, Mikey, this story is about a mosque. What’s up with the link to something totally unrelated. Stay on topic, you bigot.

  2. sorry bill,

i rarely stay on boring topics. blame on my ADD, sail. but i thought i tied that in kinda? anyways i was just wondering how the investigation was going, so i googled it. thought everyone would want an update. guess i was wrong, oh well.

not sure what makes me a bigot? if you mean to insult me, let me give you a little more ammo. i’m short, fat, bald and i wear glasses. jk on the glasses but if you want to call me four eyes it would make me laugh so. almost as much as when you call me mikey. is that supposed to upset me? he’s calling me a baby’s name? you’re about 35 years to late for that one. i stopped throwing a tantrum when my brothers and sisters called me mickey, because i was a big boy, at like age 6. that damn life cereal commercial was the bane of my existance for like my 4th year.

you have a good day sir. here’s a link about a mosque for ya.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Askari_Mosque

  3. I will be a little bit more direct. How do you know it was not Muslims that did this? It seems to me that Muslims are killing Muslims on a daily basis. The religion of death moves on to it’s next story.

bill, look away. no mosque in this link either.

  5. Hey Idiot; it is individuals who do the murdering and it is more about the culture than the religion. Christianity stands before the world with the biggest bunch of corpses in history and I don’tt see you calling them a religion of death.

  6. jill,

you are right. killing for christ has taken millions of lives. the creation of the god of abraham may have been a well intended social construct, to try and get people to behave more amicably towards each other. promise of eternal life in paradise and the threat of eternal damnation was a clever concept to try and civilize the pagans and their gods of war. and criminals who would rather slit a merchants throat then work the feilds. or to try and get the barbarian hordes to stop raiding towns and villages. but it quickly devolved back into a brutal tribalism, that which it sought to end. those seeking power have always found it useful to use religion to rally the hoi polloi to their cause. “valhalla i am coming”. whether it be sacking and pilliaging or taking mecca or jerusalem. shouldn’t we as educated modern people be able to agree on some basic ground rules for treating each other. i’ll start. live and let live.

i’ll call christianity a religion of death. in fact i’m pretty sure all religions are religions of death. that’s what religions are concerned with, what happens when you die. right? if you believe in eternal life then why not welcome death. you ever see those buddist monks light themselves on fire? calm as can be.

“it is more about the culture than the religion” don’t you think religion is a HUGE part of someone’s culture????????? in fact i think most muslims say that islam is an all encompassing way of life? isn’t that pretty much the definition of culture? how you choose to live?

  7. Jill,
Use your brain if you have one. Think about what is going on today, now, this century not centuries ago. Think about what is going on in northern Africa, Darfur for instance. Find out what the motives are behind bombings that occur on a daily basis in Iraq and Afghanistan for instance. Think about the growing anti-Israel push that is going on around the world and especially in this country. Look into what some of the Islamic leaders around the world say. Open your eyes, use your brain and find a new religion.

  8. @mikey.

You wrote like my old high school classmate. He is a non-practicing Catholic, he has some issues though and using the website to release his own disappointments in life. He knows some Muslims and using the internet to search about Islam, Qur’an, Hadiths and fatwas etc and claims to know Islam very much. But as I have said I know him and I know him well.

I told him that only a true Muslim will understand Islam. Anyone who claims to understand the religion is either a Muslim or a liar. He just gone more prostrated.

  9. @idiotsonboard.

Jill is right to call you an idiot. Read back your posting ”
Use your brain if you have one” and “Find out what the motives are behind bombings that occur on a daily basis in Iraq and Afghanistan for instance. Think about the growing anti-Israel push that is going on around the world and especially in this country. Look into what some of the Islamic leaders around the world say. Open your eyes, use your brain and find a new religion.”

One. Nobody can write if one does not have a brain.
Two. You mean you don’t know? What have you been reading, comic books?

My two cents. I know you have a brain, just lacking common sense.

  10. What are muslims doing in Las Vegas, I thought that gambling, alcohol having fun was sin for them

  11. marcelo,

“You wrote like my old high school classmate.” ok “He is a non-practicing Catholic,” ok “he has some issues though and using the website to release his own disappointments in life.” ok? so? are you giving me your psycho analysis of me? thanks boss.

“I told him that only a true Muslim will understand Islam.” i thought according to islam that everyone is born a muslim? perhaps allah has sealed my heart, made me blind and death. i must be stumbliing around as if in a thunder storm. lol. “Anyone who claims to understand the religion is either a Muslim or a liar.” yeah didn’t you ask me which one i was before. like i said then, neither. i don’t claim to understand islam at all. i find it quite confusing. you know what edie brikell said. i don’t know about too many things, but i know what i know if you know what i mean.

  12. I’m not aware of too many things,
but I know what I know if you know what I mean.
Philosophy is the talk on a cereal box.
Religion is the smile on a dog.
I’m not aware of too many things,
but I know what I know if you know what I mean.
Choke me in the shallow water before I get too deep.
What I am is what I am.
Are you what you are – or what?
I’m not aware of too many things,
but I know what I know if you know what I mean.
Philosophy is a walk on the slippery rocks.
Religion is a light in the fog.
I’m not aware of too many things,
but I know what I know if you know what I mean.
Choke me in the shallow water before I get too deep.
What I am is what I am.
Are you what you are – or what?
Don’t let me get too deep.

Have your say!
