Marine Le Pen calls for ban on Muslim and Jewish headwear

Marine Le Pen calls for ban on Muslim and Jewish headwear

French far-right leader Marine Le Pen called Friday for a ban on wearing Muslim veils and Jewish skullcaps in public, adding to religious tensions sparked by cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.

In an interview with the Le Monde newspaper, Le Pen called for religious headwear to be banned “in stores, on public transport and on the streets”.

Asked if the ban should apply to the Jewish skullcap, known as the kippah or yarmulke, as well as Muslim headwear, she said: “It is obvious that if the veil is banned, the kippah is banned in public as well.”

Le Pen, who shocked the French elite by winning almost 18 percent in the first round of this year’s presidential vote, also repeated calls for bans on public prayers, kosher and halal foods in schools and foreign government financing of mosques in France.

President Francois Hollande denounced her comments, saying: “Everything that tears people apart, opposes them and divides them is inappropriate and we must apply the rules, the only rules that we know, the rules of the Republic and secularism.”

France was on alert at home and abroad on Friday following the publication of cartoons of the Prophet by satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo on Wednesday.

Muslim leaders were calling for calm and urging militants not to defy a ban on protests in France over the cartoons.

AFP, 21 September 2012

“Veil” (voile) in this context means hijab – French Muslim women are of course already banned from wearing face-veils in public. Le Pen’s call for a ban on the kippah is significant. She had previously tried to distance herself from the aggressive attitude towards the Jewish community that characterised the Front National when her Holocaust-dismissing father Jean-Marie was party leader, but now it looks as though it’s back to antisemitism for the FN.

  1. As Mr. Le Pen has no hair to cover his own head, he doesn’t want to see others have theirs’ covered.

  2. “apply the rules, the only rules that we know, the rules of the Republic and secularism.”

If she really believes these statements then she is not anti-semitic but I believe she is wrong. I understand passing rules that do not allow the face to be covered but banning all religious headgear seems excessive and not condusive to a free society that allows for the free exchange of ideas. Personally I would say she is pandering to a group of people who are simply upset about the way their country and lives are progressing. Supporting measures like this give people a sense of power or control at a time when they feel as if they have none.

  3. The far right is rising all over Europe and the US is not far behind!

  4. how very tolerant!!!

  5. I think you’ll find it’s the left who argues against God and religion in this country.

  6. @George you do know this talking about France, not the US.

  7. France is on a roll with the ethnic cleansing …
    Ridiculous

  8. Well, they posited that the US is not far behind. Just clarifying.

  9. La Bitch!

  10. The Le Pens have been on the record as baiters of religious minorities for many years. Unfortunately, the more the light is shone upon them, the more they like it.

  11. Marine Le Pew. Ugghh

  12. I don’t care for the anti-immigrant rhetoric of the far-right and nationalist political parties, like the French National Front or the Greek Golden Dawn…however, they exist for a good reason outside of anti-immigrant nationalism. They exist because a lot of center-leftist political parties have turned their back on the working class in favor of social liberal and economic neoliberal agendas (while putting labour concerns to the back seat). Many working class French in the recent elections supported Le Penn over Hollande for that reason. Also, consider what Europe is going through now with their economic crisis. It should be of no one’s surprise that Far-Left and Far-Right parties are gaining leverage over the mainstream political parties.

  13. “The far right is rising all over Europe and the US is not far behind!”
Yet, the European right is vastly different from the American right. The European rightists are much more concerned with national identity and many within the European far-right will see fiscal conservatism (free trade, neoliberalism, economic globalism, etc) as a threat to their identity, heritage and well-being of their people and they are right, free trade and globalism does ruin the identity of nations, pressuring them to conform with a dominant global culture.
The American far-right is more concerned with economic issues and the American far-right is likely to kiss up to corporations (with a few exceptions), whereas the European far-right are wary of corporations. The American far-right may have concerns for immigration, social issues, etc, but they are secondary to economic issues.

  14. i dont believe banning religious ANYTHING ANYWHERE. i wish people could just coexist, live and let live. life is too short to worry about hindering someone else all the time. if they think its ok to do that it should apply to everyone not just muslims and jews. it should be no cross necklaces and whatever other items people wear to signify or represent their religion too which i think would more so represent unity under ONE GOD.

  16. Whoah. Would nuns habits be banned as well? Would statues of the Virgin Mary with a veil be covered?

  17. Extreme secularists are just as dangerous as extremists in religion.

  18. According to the hadiths, Yousef, Mohammad was a bandit.

  19. dongo,

now you have insulted me. i’ve been bald since i was 25. this blasphemy must not stand. i call on all bald people to avenge this great insult. kill dongo.

“As Mr. Le Pen has no hair to cover his own head, he doesn’t want to see others have theirs’ covered.” wait, that doesn’t make sense. wouldn’t he want everyone to cover their hair. wouldn’t he want everyone should wear matching bald caps?

    i retract my fatawa.

  20. Mike,

I have no problem if you kill me. I admit that being a wholesale failure in science, math and technology is eating into me, and I am often laughed at by some of my acquaintances who always mock my profession and inherent weaknesses in those sujects. 2 days ago, a Ph.D student from a Canadian university, asked me a very simple math. I was horrified. She consoled me (sarcastically) and made scathing remarks. But I think she did nothing wrong and have no grudge on her.

May not be. Because, Mr. Pen is in a powerful position. He has lots of supporters. Therefore, he wants to see others like himself or what he considers to be right. Similarly, the pig Laden wanted to see the whole world including Muslims submitting to his own twisted wishes. The US and the West want to see the whole world go by as per their own choices: demo(no)cracy, human rights upholding, rule of law, good governance, (un)accountability, freed(o)om of(f) speech—everything, Western style, of course. Anything or anyone exception, give them bad names and hang them.

  21. dgo,

“I have no problem if you kill me.” well that is bizarre. i have a huge problem if you kill me. but don’tworry unless you attack me i won’t kill you. you did see i retracted my fatawa, as opposed to the grand ayatollah and your opinion on rusdie. it is you who means to kill people for writing books or producing movies.

“He has lots of supporters. Therefore, he wants to see others like himself or what he considers to be right.” sounds like the definiton of isalm.

“The US and the West want to see the whole world go by as per their own choices: demo(no)cracy, human rights upholding, rule of law, good governance, (un)accountability, freed(o)om of(f) speech—everything, Western style, of course. Anything or anyone exception, give them bad names and hang them.” again sounds like islam? does not your god claim that the WHOLE WORLD will come under sharia? i don’t know what all your ()s are suposed to mean. but your lack of logic is disconserting, to say the least.

  22. Mike,

I am coward more than enough to face a math test, how can I think of killing a human being? You don’t worry either, I also believe and follow the same rule you just mentioned.

Is Mr. Pen a Muslim? Or does pig (Dust) bin Laden enjoy a lot of support among Muslims. You may now say that “Islamic Fundamentalists”/”Islamic Terrorists” get inspired by him or his ghoulish ideas. But pen’s party is an established one in France whereas pig Laden’s is ousted in his homeland even.

Being a Muslim, so far I believe, you don’t have to be a strict follower of the rites. Where did my God claim that the whole world would come under Shariah? Even when Muslims ruled a substantial portion of the globe, did/could they implement Shariah? Many features were taken from previous systems. In Persia, many adopted the former Persian customs; in India, they married non-Muslim women. They indulged in lavish debauchery everywhere they went. In (Fu)ckbar degrade a.k.a. the so-called Akbar the Great’s court, a Muslim scholar named Abul Fajal gave verdicts: after waking up in morning, witnessing a boar is a very good omen. To increase one’s courage and strength, one should consume tiger and lion flesh. Fuckbar himself married numerous non-Muslim women and kept several of them in the harem. He built a brothel named “Shaitanpur” (literally, Devil’s house) in the suburbs near Delhi. He ordered strictly that during his reign, none should be fasting and when coming to the court, at leat be drinking openly or chewing betel leaves to show that the person was not on fast. Another swine Muslim courtier named tajul Arefin claimed that Fuckbar was the mirror imagge of God on earth. The Shittomans adopted the title “Kaiser-i-Rum” meaning Caesar of Rome. Marrying non-Muslim women became their habit. Hold on: Muslims indulged in establishing dynastc rule. Do you see them following Shariah?

So, you mean the West is following Islam? The ()s mean: unaccountability which is as long as they serve the West unquestionably, they are safe. They have to account for no sin. Freed(o)om of speech means as long as you demonise those Muslims who are not bowing down to the West, you are an angel. But when you sympathise with them, you are worse than the Devil himself. When Muslims protest for being hurt, they are terrorists, fundamentalist, extremists, anti-modern, savages.

If you can’t follow (fall low) what I write, it is not my fault. My writings may seem disgusting to you but that does not mean I am talking with less logic or illogically.

BTW, Mark Owen is the pseudonym of the US SEAL who wrote the book on killing Laden.

  23. dongo,

“Is Mr. Pen a Muslim?” well first of all i don’t think pen is a mister. but i would say no SHE isn’t a muslim. so?

“Or does pig (Dust) bin Laden enjoy a lot of support among Muslims.” i quess that depends on how you difine “a lot”? was there not a plethora of muslims named osama after 9/11?

“You may now say that “Islamic Fundamentalists”/”Islamic Terrorists” get inspired by him or his ghoulish ideas.” i think fundamentalist and terrorist are inspired by the koran.

“But pen’s party is an established one in France whereas pig Laden’s is ousted in his homeland even.” true that the power structure os saudi arabia was so concerned about bin laden that he was stripped of his citizenship. but are not the muslim brotherhood now an established party in several countries. is the saudi ruling party some sort of great example of islamic rule. the pakistanis? the afghans? the somalis?

“Where did my God claim that the whole world would come under Shariah?” first i don’t remember making such a claim. but is it not true that in islamic mythology that a great battle will be fought between the “belivers” (muslims) and the nonbelivers? is it not belived that jesus will return to fight along side al-mahdi? but perhaps verses like this make some of us disbelievers nervous.

“[8.36] Surely those who disbelieve spend their wealth to hinder (people) from the way of Allah; so they shall spend it, then it shall be to them an intense regret, then they shall be overcome; and those who disbelieve shall be driven together to hell.
[8.37] That Allah might separate the impure from the good, and put the impure, some of it upon the other, and pile it up together, then cast it into hell; these it is that are the losers.
[8.38] Say to those who disbelieve, if they desist, that which is past shall be forgiven to them; and if they return, then what happened to the ancients has already passed.
[8.39] And fight with them until there is no more persecution and religion should be only for Allah; but if they desist, then surely Allah sees what they do.”

“religion should be only for Allah” so doeas that not mean that allah will be the only god? so do you not have to eliminate all religions that don’t worship allah?

“So, you mean the West is following Islam?” how the fuck did you come up with that? no i mean nothing of the sort. may islam never rule the west.

“BTW, Mark Owen is the pseudonym of the US SEAL who wrote the book on killing Laden.” ok, he may very well be charged with subordination or treasons. when you take part in black ops you aren’t allowed to disclouse secret or top secret (classified) information, and claim freedom of speech. you are really strugling with the american concept of freedom of speech. agian read the skokie case and the westborough baptist church rulings by the supreme court.

so, again why is it that you say rushdie is a muslim. and can non-muslims be charged with the crime of blasphemy?

  24. Mike,

The daddy Pen is a Mr., not his daughter. Daddy Pen is bald, not his daughter also.

Many people have been named Nero. But so far as I know, Caesar Nero was a nightmare to Christians. So, do you mean all those named Nero should be as vicious as Nero? What about many people being named as Pizzaro, James Cook, Clive Lloyd, Columbus etc? Does that mean all those will become as swinish as those they are named after? Many are named after prophets, saints and angels, even after names of God. So, will they too become prophets, angels, saints or say God? The names Attila and Genghis still strike fear into many. But in Turkey, Hungary and Mongolia, the names Attila and Genghis respectively are honored. Does that mean they will become Attila/Genghis? The Manchester United Football Club of England have the Devil as their club logo. Are they of the Devil?

So, when non-Muslims commits acts of terrorism, say the IRA, ETA, LTTE, RSS, BJP, Hindu Mahasabha, Abhinava Bharata, NLFT (a Christian terrorist group in Northeast India), are not they receiving inspiration from their own scriptures? The NLFT is a Biblist terrorist group. Bush received divine decree (!?) for invading Iraq. Boykin’s God is stronger than the captured Muslim terrorist’s God! While the Afghan and Iraq wars continuing, Ashcroft’s God suddenly became more merciful than the Islamic God. Frank Gaffney, Pat Robertson, Billy Graham—all see the wars and clashes, then endorse and encourage them in Biblical terms, however unjust they may be. But they are not terrorists, right, Mike? Or, when the apparently non-religious US and the total godless USSR were waging the Cold War and hence responsible for all evils of those days, where did they receive their inspirations from? Where did the apparently non-religious US receive its inspirations from to collaborate with Muslims who according to you were inspired by the Koran to become fundamentalists and terrorists, to bring down the total godless USSR?

You make me laugh really. If Bush and Blair commit horrible war crimes, strip people or their very basic rights, spread worldwide hatred against a particular faith and its followers, put the whole world including their own lands into a damning recession, yet remain in power getting elected more than once and honored in the political scenarios, what is wrong with the MB? Being elected more than once, is not easy. Ain’t you people are the most learned people on earth?

I hope to answer your rest tomorrow because I have to go to my boss; she is calling me in for some personal discussions.

  25. my bad. didn’t realize they are father daughter. the article says “she said” and “her comments”. but regardless of you is follicly challenged, naming a child after some one as an homage to the namesake doesn’t mean that that child will become a brutal caesar or a terrorist. but it is a sign of support to the namesake.

“are not they receiving inspiration from their own scriptures?” perhaps. that is why all “holy scriptures” are bad and should be left the trash heap of history. should be seen for what they are. mythologies of an unscientific people, of a rudimentry attempt to explain the unknown.

“But they are not terrorists, right, Mike?” well i’ve never heard of any of the people you named blowing anything up. certainly not themselves.

unfotunately during the cold war we had leaders you played on the christian base of america. that is when they put “under god” in the pleage. it should be removed. along with “in god we trust” from our money. but unfortunately i have little control over such things.

“You make me laugh really” awesome. i’m often told i’m very funny.

“Ain’t you people are the most learned people on earth?” lol. that’s a good one. i think your sense of humor is improving. but of course not. we often rank in the middle of the pack amoung industrialized nations in education. our demographics along with other factors often pull us down.

“Being elected more than once, is not easy.” i don’t know anything about bangladeshi politics but in america, at least at the presidental level, the incumbent usually wins.

“what is wrong with the MB?” they want to impose sharia.

  26. Well, Dongo, the math people sometimes can’t learn languages.

  27. Mike, (rest of 1 October),

You should drink Horlicks/Milo/Maltova/Boost/Bourn Vita. Their ads say that they help enhance memory aside from physical strength. If you forgot where you wrote my God claimed that the whole world would come under Shariah, let me remind you: “does not your god claim that the WHOLE WORLD will come under sharia? i don’t know what all your ()s are suposed to mean. but your lack of logic is disconserting, to say the least.

    //mike

Here the fuck you said it when you again partially quoted (nothing new)me : ““The US and the West want to see the whole world go by as per their own choices: demo(no)cracy, human rights upholding, rule of law, good governance, (un)accountability, freed(o)om of(f) speech—everything, Western style, of course. Anything or anyone exception, give them bad names and hang them.” again sounds like islam?

    //mike
    26 September 2012 at 11:01 pm”

Muslims can’t rule themselves and you fear them of ruling the West! What brand of cigarette do you smoke?

All faiths including the Abrahamic ones have these kinds of predictions. The Jews and Christians say about last battle to be fought near Meggido (Armageddon). The Hindu religion divides the time into four eras and present era is as they say the most polluted. God will send an envoy to end the evil from earth forever. So what’s wrong with Muslims and Islam making such predictions? The Biblical narratives are more horrifying than the Islamic ones? Don’t they send chilling shivers down your spine?

Did it say that the religion would be Islam? You now may say that the Quran says Islam is the only accepted faith to Allah. Well, Islam does not only mean you have to go to the mosques, say prayers or call Allah by the Islamic names. Jews and Arab Christians also call God by many names that are pretty similar to Arabic. Jews and Christians don’t admit our Prophet as a prophet. But does that mean they have been ordered to be eliminated by Muslims while they are termed as people of the book? And believe me, there are provisions for severe punishments for Muslims, not only non-Muslims.

May be I have little idea on US/Western style freedom of speech. But what I do understand (and I don’t need a Harvard/MIT doctorate degree for that end) is that as long as you continue to demonise Muslims and Islam or anything related to these, you are a hero. But when you protest (protests may be violent which in most cases are, unfortunately) something being done against them or even speak in favour of Muslims and Islam, you are a bigot, anti-modern, reactive, fundamentalist, extremist, terrorist. And don’t forget please to add the prefix “Islamic”!

Yes, military jobs do impose some kind of limitations. Forget Mr. Owen. What about Assange? Is he a military person? When the same kind of trick was done by former Soviet/eastern bloc people, they were granted heroic honours saying “Go West” type rants. These people often included military/intelligence services people. Remember Viktor Belenko? Piotr Pirogov and Anatoly Barsov (1948)? Captain Alexander Zuyev (1989)? Moreover, when in US army as you say, people lose some freedom, they in exchange receive greater freedom of killing and mutilating innocent people as witnessed in Iraq and Afghanistan. But when they return home, they are given heroes’ welcome.

  28. Mike,

Rushdie was born into a Muslim family. He may not be literally be a Muslim but neither did he chose other faiths nor openly renounce Islam earlier. It was very late when he expressed his condemnation for Islam. But the fatwa placed on him came earlier than that. This is why I called him a Muslim and he was still apparently a Muslim while writing that crap. He claimed to have reverted to Islam and condemned his filth on Islam. But later he revealed that it was a deception. Now don’t compare him to Obama who openly accepted the Christian faith despite being borne of a Muslim father. I don’t know if non-Muslims can be charged with that. I personally would charge but not put him/her to death.

  29. Mike,

  30. dongo,

“You should drink Horlicks/Milo/Maltova/Boost/Bourn Vita. Their ads say that they help enhance memory aside from physical strength.” thanks for the suggestion. my memory is failing. and i’m weak as hell. a couple of months ago i worked out with a buddy. i usually workout alone. so i thought we should max out on bench, having a spot and all. i thought i would do 300lbs no problem. i struggled with 275. didn’t try any more. afraid of pulling something. i’m getting old. allah has cursed us all with this aging thing. my telomeres are shinking fast. oh well.

but not to get too technical on ya. if you re-read my comments agian, those are both questions. desinated so by the question marks. ????????? “”again sounds like islam?”” “”does not your god claim that the WHOLE WORLD will come under sharia?”” so you are saying, no. the whole world will not come under sharia?? good to hear.

anyways, end time prophecies of all religions are total non-sense, so no they don’t send shivers down my spine. the differance is that muslim, sorry i guess i need to say “some” muslims, believe that they need to shape the world in the image that allah has decreed. like the muslim brotherhood, the wahabbists, the salafist, or even aaishah. “we will punish you”, lol. they claim the koran to be perfection. it’s not even well written.

“Muslims can’t rule themselves and you fear them of ruling the West!” i agree, that is why i tell aikido not to worry so much. but i think he may be around muslim much more then i am.

“What brand of cigarette do you smoke?” camels

“What about Assange?” i do clearly remember saying i’m against charging assange. did you not see that in your review of my comments?

“May be I have little idea on US/Western style freedom of speech” tru dat.

yes rushdie claimed to renounce satanic verses when he feared for his life. and claimed to be a muslim. but isn’t that allowed under islam? or is he a hypocrite? but he is an established atheist. i guess that deserves death in and off itself. fareed zakaria has an islamic sholar for a father, yet he says shairah is no way to run a country. should he be punish? i have a freind rizwan shiehk, he is of pakistani descent, his family is muslim. does that make him a muslim? i’ll tell him next time we are having drinks. should i lash him 80 times? he drinks crown royal and smokes camels as well, if you are thinking of sending gifts.

“I don’t know if non-Muslims can be charged with that. I personally would charge but not put him/her to death or imprisonment” well that is again disconcerting.

always, good to hear from you. you try to relax a little, don’t take this religion/eternal damnation stuff to seriously. again if you want to come to florida, i’ll take you to disney world. in their adds they say it is the happiest place on earth.

  31. scholar punished

damn i really need some of that telemore lengthing treatment the chinese are developing. FG1 i think they are calling it.

for those of you who don’t know what telomeres are.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telomere

  32. Mike, (For 01 October, 2012)

Right. In that case, the West is the same criminal as the Muslims.
It is easy to say but hard to do. When you go to dump those into the ash heap of history, people who follow religion may not leave you unharmed. So, please do look before you leap.

Well, I made one mistake in writing a name, i.e. Clive Lloyd which should have been Robert Clive. You are entirely wrong, Mike. These motherfuckers I mentioned certainly did not blew anyone up but they just erased the vanquished ones. P(ee)izzaro and Christofucker Columbastard paved the way for white European scums to reach, plunder, massacre and occupy the Americas. James (Fu)c(k)ook did the same about Australia, New Zealand and Oceania. Clive did this for British Indian Empire. But he was not alone; some Muslims and several BDSM Hindus were with him too but very rarely the names of Hindus are mentioned even carefully omitted while discussing this tragedy. Clive is an honoured figure in UK.

What about the “God bless America”, “the Judaeo-Christian (!?) roots/values/foundation of America” rants? When the Enola Gay went to nuclear bomb Japan, pastor Jo Downey blessed that diabolic mission.
You are not funny often. Your solemn duties are to find the faults with Islam and Muslims, and part-quote others to establish your stance.

If that is true, why is the US the first choice of millions of students for studying? Are not the best seats of learning existing in there? My sense of humour is not improving I think. I am always told that I am a banal and morose fellow.

The warmongers in the West often win as witnessed since the foundation of US and the West. Bangladeshi politics probably is the most wretched one on earth.

So, if MB’s attempts to establish Shariah is condemnable, why not the Western attempts to establish the shit called demo(no)cracy receive the same abhorrence and annihilation?

  33. Mike (for 02-10-2012),

Everyone is destined to become old/aged. Does that mean everyone is cursed?

So, you say that when the West is doing something illegal, that is according to Islam? When you said again part-quoting my post ““He has lots of supporters. Therefore, he wants to see others like himself or what he considers to be right.” sounds like the definiton of isalm.” and ““The US and the West want to see the whole world go by as per their own choices: demo(no)cracy, human rights upholding, rule of law, good governance, (un)accountability, freed(o)om of(f) speech—everything, Western style, of course. Anything or anyone exception, give them bad names and hang them.” again sounds like islam?”( //mike
26 September 2012 at 11:01 pm) what do you mean by that? It means whenever anything is bad or unjust even if Muslims and Islam have not the remotest relations with that, that thing must also be blamed on these two.

Well, what is well-written and what is not, is neither yours nor my duty. Billions of people read the scriptures; do you dare telling those devout ones to boycott reading or revering them? No. You don’t have that much guts. If you are so courageous (which you pretend to be), just go to the Jews, tell them to discard the Torah or go to Vatican and tell the Pope to discard Bible. They won’t spare you.

I don’t care what that flea-infested stool-eating mongrel says or thinks. That pig advised me a worse than used toilet paper written by Raw Fart “Motherfucker” stencher; I did not let that pig go easily and suggested about 7/8 books which would reveal the real face of BDSM Hinduism. That pig fuckshito did not reply.

Good cigarette. But you may also try some Parliament, Philip Morris, Davidoff, Benson & Hedges, Gold Leaf, Marlborough, Captain Black, King Edward, Rothman’s Royal, Salem, Kent, State Express etc. These might give you some more energy to think alternatively and broadly.
You may be against this, not your government or the West in general. Whoever hurts their interests, is a criminal but when they themselves harm even erase others, those are given grandiloquent names and thus justified.

Again Mike, part-quoting. What did I say: “May be I have little idea on US/Western style freedom of speech. And don’t forget please to add the prefix “Islamic”!” Dr. Anne Marie Schimmel, when said that the Rushdie book was highly offensive to Muslims and was a gross misuse of freedom of speech, many German writers boycotted and condemned her; they even urged the German president to cancel the prize she was about to receive. This is your freedom of speech. If Abu Hamza or Qatada can be condemned and brought to justice, why can’t Nakoula, Stencher, Geller, Piles be done the same with? After all, they are doing the same crime.

When he wrote than book, he was not an atheist or at least did not bark out to be so. But when received threats or the fatwa, he became a Muslim. That means he is a hypocrite and not a Muslim. Now you say of Taqiyya. But that arose among Shias when escaping the Sunni tortures. But now this has become a chosen tool for Christians and Jews to demonise Muslims. Mr. Zakaria has not been demonizing Muslims or Islam. Your friend Sheikh should not be punished according to myself. I also smoke and drink? My religious friends and known ones do know it. None has ever threatened me. Being borne into a Muslim family gives you a Muslim name. But that does not mean you have to go to mosques, say five time prayers, provide charity etc. I was borne to a hyper atheist dad. I have a Muslim name though one of my forefathers may have been a Jew (I once named him as Shaadai but it may be Hagaai). But I am barely religious.

No, not at all. When I would do that, I would be utmost careful that the convict receive the justice but not be put to death anyway. The imprisonment provision is for creating instability and inciting violence.

I don’t take religious issues too seriously but when they are deliberately used to create unrest and also intentionally demonizing a particular group, that must no way be taken lightly. Florida may not be the happiest place on earth; the state has been facing problems from Burmese pythons and snakeheads. Moreover, this state has people like Terry Jones, Allen West, and an important element of the Bible Belt.
