#MySubwayAd: People Respond To Anti-Islamic Subway Ads

This morning controversial pro-Israel, anti-Islamic ads went up on 10 locations in New York City subway stations. The ad, which was condemned by several Jewish groups, reads: “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad.” (While many understand jihad to reference war, its primary meaning is the inner struggle to be a Muslim). The ads are sponsored by polemical figure, Pamela Geller’s American Freedom Defense Initiative.

Muslim and non-Muslims alike took to Twitter today to denounce the Islamophobic ad. Their responses were both humorous and thoughtful. Below are some of our favorite tweets:

  1. Let’s not get so kumbaya that we forget that there is actually something going on that people are apt to get angry about. That is a funny description of NYC – that raucous conglomeration of ethnic enclaves, has it changed that much?

  2. “people respond to anti-islamic subway add” want? i’m a person. i didn’t respond. this is a hateful, bigoted, lie.
