A bullet was reportedly fired Tuesday morning at the Prayer Center of Orland Park, 16530 104th Ave.

The Chicago Office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Chicago) is calling for an FBI hate crime investigation after the single shot was discharged through the dome of mosque around 6:05 a.m. Tuesday, according to a release on the website.

No one was injured.

Imam Nazir Chahin was leading prayer when the bullet reportedly penetrated the dome, and sent debris falling over the prayer service and its 40 worshipers, according to the release.

Orland Park Police were immediately contacted and are currently investigating the shooting.

CAIR-Chicago has contacted the Orland Park Police to request increased security patrols and is asking the FBI to investigate the shooting for a potential bias crime.

“Incidents such as this have a chilling effect on worshippers,” said CAIR-Chicago Executive Director Ahmed Rehab. “No one should have to go to their place of worship worried if they’ll make it back home alive.”

Orland Park Police are investigating, according to CAIR.

  1. Absolutely ridiculous!! Will the bigotry ever end?

  2. “No one should have to go to their place of worship worried if they’ll make it back home alive.”

  3. I hate discrimination. Wither they are Jews, Christians, Muslims, and etc.

  4. White America is so culturally, religiously, culinarily washed down they will always need to ratioanlize an enemy…it’s how they define their culture, against another

  5. as a white American, I can say this isn’t just a white American issue. This kind of hatred knows no limits to race, color, gender, or religion. Angry / violent people will use any excuse to commit violent acts. No one should fear for their choice of religion. No one should fear for domestic terrorism.

  6. Or yes, Blocking is your option too, Mukhter. Please, don’t feel the need to apologize for the way you treated Heather Swindell. Or to apologize for the misinformation, or acting in a way just like those you stereotype demonize.

Truth hurts – violence isn’t bound by race, gender, religion, etc.

  7. Like Michael Jackson said: “I am starting with the (wo)man in the mirror……that will make this world a better place!”
What does it help to accuse any “group of people” to be bad. Accusation provokes even more hostility and is never a solution to discrimination! In my opinion tolerance starts when you stop thinking you are better than others!

Have your say!
