Woman weightlifter fights to compete in hijab

Kulsoom Abdullah, who was born in the United States to Pakistani parents, discovered weightlifting at her gym, Crossfit, in Atlanta in 2008. She entered her first open competition last year, and was thrilled to find out that she was actually pretty good in the competitive sport.

I REFER to the report “Najib offers assistance in overcoming Islamophobia” (NST, Sept 25). Islamophobia exists because of stereotyping. It occurs when we generalise and categorise people into groups. In addition, we also assume that everybody in that categorised group has related characteristics.
