Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly clashed over history, American hegemony and the Egypt uprisings on O’Reilly’s Monday show. Both agreed that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is a “bad guy” who the U.S. is “in bed with.” But that was about the only thing the two agreed on.

WASHINGTON – Canadian television viewers looking for the most thorough and in-depth coverage of the uprising in Egypt have the option of tuning into Al Jazeera English, whose on-the-ground coverage of the turmoil is unmatched by any other outlet.

Beck is too smart to be that stupid! But, of course, he’s smart enough to know he’ll get lots of attention from his media and internet following.

This Sunday morning, like most mornings, I opened — from years of habit — the home page of The New York Times. Peering at the lead story without my glasses, I was horrified to find the image of Muslim men praying near Mecca next to a cable excerpt from (the now hard to access) WikiLeaks.

As ThinkProgress pointed out, Beck’s estimate would mean that roughly 157 million Muslims in the world are terrorists.

When iconic journalist Helen Thomas said that Jews should leave Palestine and go back to where they came from, she was being forced to retire abruptly after covering eight U.S. presidents.

His baseless anti-Muslim rhetoric that led to Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg to walk off the set earlier this week was a ratings boon for him and the show. O’Reilly appeared on the Glenn Beck show and “The View” hosts are scheduled to discuss Thursday’s show on Monday.

“That debate is almost like our debate on training wheels,” Kilmeade said of the “View” discussion. “That was our debate seven weeks ago, and they can’t handle the give-and-take of a debate.

This honor will come in the form of a $650,000 fund that the Department of Social Studies is creating in Peretz’s name — a nice celebration for a man with a sordid history of bigoted comments, mainly (though not entirely) against Arabs and Muslims.

That’s reasonable advice, and as a moderate myself, I’m going to take it. (Throat clearing.) I hereby apologize to Muslims for the wave of bigotry and simple nuttiness that has lately been directed at you. The venom on the airwaves, equating Muslims with terrorists, should embarrass us more than you.
