The NYPD has decided to dump the “Demographic unit” which was responsible for mapping Muslim communities and spying on so-called “hot spots”; mosques and Muslim owned businesses such as restaurants and cafes.

While some groups are giving Ray Kelly this kind of reception at his lectures, the “Muslim Advisory Council” thought it was a good idea to reward the former NYPD chief spy. Many Muslims are appalled by the group’s action with CAIR-NY describing it as a “cheap political stunt.”

WASHINGTON (AP) — One of the Obama administration’s go-to civil rights groups in its efforts to build relationships with American Muslims is suing the New York Police Department over its surveillance programs, some of which were paid for with federal money.

It was disturbing to learn several months ago that the New York Police Department was conducting secret spy missions on Muslims in Newark, building dossiers on their mosques and shops, taking photographs and eavesdropping on their conversations.
