Florida pastor Terry Jones got the world’s attention back in 2010 when he set fire to the Quran, the Islamic holy book. His screeds gained national prominence during the whole debate over the so-called “Ground Zero Mosque” that year.

In April 2011, pastor Terry Jones burned a Koran in Gainesville, Florida, sparking deadly clashes in Afghanistan and Pakistan. One year later, he burned a Koran again, and no one paid any attention. That same month he came to Dearborn, Michigan, to protest in front of the Islamic Center of America, the nation’s largest mosque.

|
He told New Times the effigy represented “death — of course, not to him. To his political career” and that the black guy hanging from a gallows wasn’t meant to carry any racial undertones. Now, he’s upped the ante: Terry Jones has dug a grave for Barack Obama.

Jones most recent attention-seeking gimmick was to hang an effigy of President Barack Obama outside of his Dove World Outreach Church (which is still for sale!). Jones’ bid for attention was successful, and he’s likely going to get a call from the Secret Service as well.

Dove World Outreach Center pastor Terry Jones on Saturday burned copies of the Quran and an image depicting Muhammad in front of his church to protest the imprisonment in Iran of a Christian clergyman.

|
Last year Jones was denied a permit to protest on Good Friday in front of the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn, Michigan, prompting howls of protest all across the looniverse. Anti-Muslim bigots accused the court of subverting the US Constitution and caving in to Sharia.

Remember Terry Jones, the mustachioed clown of a pastor who created a furor over burning copies of the Quran? Mr. Jones has decided to throw his hat into the ring and run for President of the United States.

If Pam Geller organizes a protest against the Park51 Islamic community center, but there’s no sustained media hype to accompany it, does it make a sound?
